Summary

Position Purpose The school psychologist provides direct support and interventions to students, consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborates with community providers to coordinate needed services. Essential Functions Other duties may be assigned. Support the implementation of MTSS to inform school-wide systems-level change in academics and promote student engagement, including collaboration with outside agencies and direct service delivery of social/emotional curricula at tiers I, II, and III. Participate in the Student Support Team (SST) to influence core instructional practices, select and design interventions, and support individual students. Serve as a data resource by providing data for collaboration, analysis, and/or to inform decision-making. Participate in other school-wide practices such as Positive Behavior Support (PBS) team, Social/Emotional Learning Standards (SELS) instruction, and teacher professional development. Consult and collaborate with parents, school staff, and outside personnel regarding mental health, behavioral and educational concerns, including prevention-oriented approaches and implementing the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan. Strong understanding of state and federal education policies and regulations. Provide direct service to students with disabilities as required by the related services delineated in an IEP. Conduct psychological, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral assessments, interpret psycho-educational evaluation findings, and communicate recommendations at Team meetings. Collaborate with the Team on appropriate Individualized Education Programs for students with disabilities. Promote resilience and mitigating risk factors in mental health to support learning. Assess needs and develop and implement plans to promote student safety and crisis prevention/response. Collaborate to generalize student skill development across varied environments. Collaborate to conduct a violence risk assessment (VRA), suicide risk assessment (SRA), and alcohol and other drugs assessment (AOD). Assist individuals and groups of students in meeting immediate needs and concerns. Support positive relationships among the school, families, and the community. Keep abreast of new developments in the fields of psychology and education. Perform any other related task or duty at the direction of the Principal, Director of Student Services, or designee. Supervision Supervisors students. Qualifications The School Psychologist shall be licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The School Psychologist shall have experience in conducting student evaluations, providing behavioral consultations, and developing psycho-educational treatment recommendations. The School Psychologist shall provide psychological services consistent with relevant state and federal special education laws and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Principles for Professional Ethics. Knowledge of IDEA regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Education and experience Master's degree in school psychology or equivalent. Completed 45 graduate hours in school psychology. Have completed no less than a 500 clock hour supervised internship with school-age persons. Completed one year of successful experience as a school psychologist with direction from a fully approved school psychologist. Massachusetts certification as School Psychologist Master's degree required, CAGS in School Psychology preferred. Three years of experience working within a school/clinical setting is preferred. Knowledge Ability and Skills Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication. Ability to use a personal computer to process testing results and write final reports. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, professional correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, parents, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
