The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township (MSDWT) is located in the northern section of Indianapolis in the State of Indiana, Marion County. Secondary Instructional Coach (195 Day Contract)
Qualifications
- Valid Indiana teaching license for the assigned grade, level and/or subject(s)
- A minimum of five (5) years of successful secondary classroom teaching experience
- Middle school and/or high school teaching experience required
- Master's degree preferred
- Demonstrates leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Possesses strong pedagogical knowledge and experience with effective instruction and assessment
- Shows a proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners
- Exhibits a proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions with the ability to teach others to do the same
- Significant understanding of middle school pedagogy including culturally responsive teaching, classroom management, and professional learning communities
- Ability to differentiate instruction for a diverse student population (i.e. ENL, High Ability, struggling students); co-plan with and model differentiation for teachers; targeted expertise in facilitating small group instruction
- Displays excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work positively with others
- Flexible schedule: some training sessions may occur outside of typically contracted hours and days in order to meet teacher schedules
- Strong work ethic, self-directed, and self-motivated
Performance Responsibilities
Curriculum
- Base instructional decisions based on academic standards and curriculum maps/pacing guides to analyze student strengths and target areas for improvement
- Take an active role in program evaluation, material adoption, and implementation for curriculum
- Research and vet available and potential materials and tools to support classroom instruction
- Tap into the content expertise of the classroom teacher
- Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with district strategic plan, vertical articulation, and recognized best instructional practices
- Models the practice of mining and analyzing student data to drive collaborative instructional decisions
- Promotes the creation of assessments and the utilization of that data to drive differentiated instruction
Instruction & Assessment
- Model lessons that demonstrate effective teaching methods
- Model ongoing curiosity and inquiry into educational trends and shares instructional strategies, processes, and research through rich, collegial conversations about instruction and assessment
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters and remains responsive to the limitations of teachers' classrooms
- Provide guidance, structure, and reflective opportunities to teachers where needed
- Co-plan and co-teach to support differentiated instruction
- Support the implementation of inclusionary practices in general education classrooms
- Use, analyze, and reflect on formative assessment data to improve teaching and learning
Professional Development
- Serve as lead trainer for instruction including the integration of small group instruction
- Build strong relationships with educators within and beyond MSDWT
- Partner with teachers to create student-focused goals as they move through a Coaching Impact Cycle
- Design and facilitate job-embedded professional development based on the diverse needs of educators
- Plan, attend, and/or facilitate training sessions within and beyond the school day or year
- Attend PLCs and related professional development training opportunities in order to grow as an instructional leader and help grow PLC leaders so that they own and embrace this work
- Provide professional development in the area of student assessment and progress monitoring
- Co-plan and facilitate building and district level professional development
- Provide support to classroom teachers in the areas of pedagogy, classroom management, establishing a strong learning environment, as well as purposeful planning
