Health Educator I
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is a dedicated advocate for comprehensive sexual health education and women's care services, committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and informed community. We are seeking a full-time Health Educator 1 to assist with the delivery of comprehensive sexual health education programming for youth and to work to assure accessibility, availability, and quality of preventive and primary care for adolescents ages 11-21 in Champaign County.
Responsibilities:
Illinois Tobacco Free Communities
Implement tobacco prevention education curriculum to local Champaign County schools
Provide information to schools related to updating their tobacco policies
Engage with the tobacco prevention coalition and the community to initiate policies focused on restricting menthol and flavored tobacco products
Function in a support role for additional tobacco related grant activities
Adolescent Health Program:
Collaborate with local school-based educators, nurses, coaches, parents and organizations to enhance and support adolescent health
Stay current on relevant research, guidelines, and trends related to improving adolescent access to health services
Building community networks, relationships, and awareness through education outreach
Developing and creating social media content to promote and build awareness of adolescent health needs
Comprehensive Sexual Health Education
Facilitate engaging, evidence-based sexual health education programs tailored to youth, including students, community groups, and healthcare professionals.
Develop and deliver age-appropriate, culturally sensitive curricula covering topics such as sexual anatomy, contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), consent, and healthy relationships.
Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and healthcare providers to promote sexual health education, focusing on youth.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, interest in working with youth, and ability to facilitate programming are essential. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish are highly desirable. CUPHD offers qualified employees who are fluent in other languages a language stipend.
Requirements and Qualifications
Option 1:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree (Community health, education, gender & women's studies, social work, etc preferred)
Option 2:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, or associate’s degree
AND two years program facilitation experience

This is a full-time position, with a starting annual salary of $46,245 for a 40-hour week. After one year of training, the selected candidate may be considered for a flexible or part-time remote work schedule.
