Position Summary

This position provides an extraordinary member experience by directing and coordinating activities for the indirect and direct Consumer Lending programs to include loan underwriting, funding, and quality control, auto and boat dealer relationship management, retail branch and member interaction, reporting, contract review, and compliance. Works with Head of Lending and senior management to develop and implement department goals. Manages a staff of seven and works closely with related departments – i.e. Loan Servicing, Retail Branch Network, Finance, Collections, and Risk/Compliance.

Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Consumer Lending

  • Works with Head of Lending to develop indirect and direct lending goals and related strategic initiatives.
  • Ensures all consumer loans are underwritten and completed according to Credit Union policies, procedures, and applicable government regulations, while maximizing opportunities for profitable growth in line with the Credit Union’s goals and strategies.
  • Directly supervises the Consumer Lending team, including skill development and performance management – dealer relationship officer/s, consumer loan lead, underwriters, and loan funders/processors.
  • Works with branch staff to support consumer loan underwriting and decisioning, including training.
  • Monitors market conditions and competitor rates to recommend appropriate changes.
  • Maintains, increases, and shares knowledge of industry standards with employees and actively maintains ties with other industry professionals to stay attuned to the future needs of the Credit Union.

Staff Development

  • Manages and supervises by motivating team members, serving as coach and mentor by providing training, support, and guidance to build long lasting relationships.
  • Effectively maintains an engaged, positive, highly motivated, and well-trained staff.
  • Ensures all staff have appropriate training and development plans.
  • Communicates organizational updates and initiatives to staff in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensures staff perform all duties in line with policies and procedures, and state and federal regulations.


Compliance

  • Establishes and manages related vendor relationships and acts as system administrator for assigned technologies, including completion of related due diligence and risk assessment activities as required.
  • Maintains complete and current auto dealer and other merchant files as applicable.
  • Provides reporting on origination, funding, and profitability of consumer lending programs.
  • Actively participates in committees including Credit Committee.
  • Works with Head of Lending to respond to internal lending audits and examinations. Adjusts procedures and makes recommendations for policy changes accordingly.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience with indirect and direct consumer loan origination, underwriting and funding; at least 3 years in a team management role
  • Self-motivated, self-starter

  • Strong indirect auto loan / dealership finance knowledge
  • Strong understanding of Lending regulations as they apply to Consumer Lending
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to lead staff development and strategic direction of the department
  • Strong relationship building skills internally within and across departments, and externally with auto dealers and vendors
  • Experience in Windows, Microsoft Office, and indirect lending systems such as DealerTrack, Route One, and Lending operating systems are preferred
  • Experience with COCC Insight and Meridian Link preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
  • Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation.
  • Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work additional hours whenever required or requested by management.
  • Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive 6-8 hours per month for dealership and branch visits as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
