Summary

SUMMARY

We are seeking an executive leader to manage the Corporate Development & Strategy group for our investment firm with a focus on high volume transactions. Our corporate development team is responsible for business development (proprietary deal origination) and acquiring new businesses to add to the Tide Rock family of companies. In this role, you will lead a team of highly talented professionals that identifies potential companies to acquire, negotiates the transaction, and closes the acquisition. You will also partner closely with the executive leadership team to define and execute on the strategy to grow Tide Rock. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a high volume M&A function and will have have come from a role with direct people management. Ideally, this person will also be able to provide a framework for our team that focuses on proprietary deal flow.


You should have proven track record in corporate development or M&A in high volume acquisitive business. A track record in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development is required for this role. This role is critical to our mission of identifying, acquiring, and growing high-potential businesses in line with our investment profile.


The position requires a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team. Your ability to originate deal flow and shepherd relationships through successful acquisition will be instrumental in driving Tide Rock’s success.


This is a full-time position located at our headquarters in Solana Beach, CA


POSITION AND SCOPE:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine the organization’s long-term strategic vision and business goals.
  • Identify growth opportunities through market research, industry analysis, and competitive benchmarking.
  • Lead strategic planning processes, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Develop scalable deal-management strategies and processes to drive deals from information gathering, to management meetings, LOIs, and due diligence
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of acquisition targets through proprietary efforts including direct outreach (phone & digital), networking, and partnerships with investment bankers, brokers, and industry contacts.
  • Manage a team responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive deal sourcing strategy aligned with the firm’s investment focus.
  • Screen and evaluate potential transactions, including financial performance, market position, and strategic fit.
  • Create financial models and valuation analyses to assess deal feasibility and potential returns.
  • Prepare and present investment committee materials, ensuring alignment with the firm’s strategic and financial objectives.
  • Negotiate terms and structure transactions, including financing and purchase agreements.
  • Manage closing processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Coordination with internal teams in diligence, finance, legal, and external advisors to shepherd potential transactions through acquisition.
  • Manage a team of business development professionals with a focus on top of funnel sales efforts.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitive landscapes, and potential investment opportunities.
  • Create and monitor KPI’s that effectively drive outbound business development activity that can be tracked via Salesforce to achieve proprietary deal origination goals.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or corporate strategy with a track record of deal origination and transaction execution.
  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and M&A processes.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with portfolio company executives and potential buyers.
  • Excellent negotiating skill.
