Job Title: Hardware Lab Networking Technician

Location: Hybrid San Jose, CA

Compensation: DOE, $70K - $77K/yr + full benefits

Duration: 3-6 months with potential to convert

Travel Requirements: Travel to co-location by SJC airport per business needs

This role is positioned at the intersection of various networking and application technologies, so a strong foundation in core networking and hands-on experience with switching, routing, and wireless is essential. Candidates should be able to quickly acquire functional knowledge of new technologies and understand them in both solution and customer contexts.

The focus of this role is to conduct performance, functional and solution testing as well as manage existing lab infrastructure.

This role will focus on Enterprise Technologies, including Campus Switching, WAN Routing, SD-WAN, and Network Management tools.

Key responsibilities include:

• Network Switch and Firewall Testing Conduct hands-on analysis of Tier 1 Campus Switching and Routing vendors, comparing their products to Ciscos solutions, including the Catalyst 9000 Series Switching, Catalyst 8000 Series Routing, Catalyst Center, SD-WAN, and Meraki Cloud.
• Solution Testing Perform competitive benchmark testing and comparative analysis, from feature-level assessments to architecture and solution-level evaluations.
• Lab Infrastructure Manage and maintain on premises lab as well as a small Colo infrastructure, ensuring it includes both current technologies and the latest emerging hardware, software, and platforms (On-Premises and Cloud SaaS)
• Vendor Analysis Research and assess vendor offerings and capabilities, providing competitive insights.
• Content Creation Contribute to the competitive knowledge base by creating deliverables such as presentations, playbooks, whitepapers, and demos.

Required qualifications and skills

• 3-5 years of relevant lab and networking experience
• Experience with managing and maintaining on premises labs
• Content creation - presentations, playbooks, whitepapers, et al
• Candidates must be able to work independently while making a significant impact.
• Familiarity with industry network testing tools like Spirent Test Center, IXIA BreakingPoint, or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience working with production networks, particularly in switching, routing, and Network Management solutions.
• Experience with multi-vendor Campus Network solutions is an advantage.
• Candidates must be highly organized, fluent in English, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications and skills

Previous tech industry: Cisco, Google, Meta, Microsoft, etc.

Education

BS/MS in relevant technical field
