With this role you will be working with people who are accessing our treatment service.
As a gym volunteer you will be a play key role in supporting individuals on their recovery journey by helping to create a safe, welcoming and motivating gym environment. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about fitness, wellbeing and supporting others to make positive lifestyle changes.
You will help to supervise those using the gym, assist during work outs when needed, encourage safe use of exercise equipment and keep the space clean and tidy. You will be required to use your own initiative whilst also having the ability to work as part of a team, where people feel valued and welcome.
Our opening hours for the gym will vary, initially we are looking to be open Monday to Friday, 10am - 6pm. We ask for reliability from applicants who are applying for this role, as the gym will rely on dedicated volunteers to help keep it running successfully.
Successful applicants will be supported to complete a Level 2 Gym instructing qualification
- Supporting with the day-to-day running of our Gym.
- Work closely with staff and other volunteers
- Supervise the gym during open hours to ensure safe, inclusive and supportive space.
- Offer basic guidance and encouragement to gym users based on their needs.
- Ensuring all areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Build a positive, non-judgemental relationship with those using our gym and recovery hub
- Awareness of Hygiene standards, health and fitness
- Commitment to complete training towards a level 2 gym instruction qualification supported by Change Grow Live.

- Perform your volunteering role to the best of your ability.
- Follow the Change Grow Live’s procedures and standards, including health and safety and equal opportunities, in relation to our staff, volunteers and clients.
- Maintain the confidential information of Change Grow Live and of our clients; adhering to Change Grow Live’s policies and procedures.
- Meet the time commitments and standards which have been mutually agreed and to give reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made when this is not possible.
Skills, Experience, And Qualities
- Understanding of the challenges faced by those who access our service.
- A genuine interest in health, fitness and recovery support.
- Basic knowledge of gym equipment and fitness principles is helpful- but not essential
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Compassion and empathy for others.
