Department: Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology

Reports to: Director of Visitor Engagement and Education

Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly, Staff, Part-time Seasonal, Non-benefited

SUMMARY

The Guest Service Associate is charged with providing guest services with messaging tailored toward what activities, exhibitions, and programming are offered. Ensures the museum’s protocols are followed at all times, including but not limited to ticketing, cash handling, guest safety, and general housekeeping. Assists staff with public outreach and education programs, including evening, weekend, and off-site events. Provides all other aspects of a customer service role.

RELATIONSHIPS

The Guest Service Associate reports to the Director of Visitor Engagement and Education and must work closely with Alf Museum/The Webb Schools staff and faculty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcomes guests at the admission kiosk and provides guest services with a positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Process museum fees of cash, checks, or credit cards correctly and efficiently.
  • Respond to guest questions and concerns by explaining museum policies, exhibitions, programs, and events, or directing them to appropriate museum staff.
  • Observe guests in exhibit halls and help direct guests to ensure all safety protocols and regulations are observed.
  • Perform general maintenance of the museum and assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Assist in the implementation of outreach and education programs, including group tours
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Background and experience with guest services, education, and science communication. Knowledge of paleontology, natural history, museum science, and general science is preferred. Experience in public speaking preferred. An associate or bachelor’s degree in science, education, or related academic discipline preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A criminal background check must be successfully completed before employment can begin. Must be able to work at least four days and weekends with a variable schedule as needed by the museum’s programs and events schedule.

Must be able to effectively communicate with visitors, campus staff, faculty, and students.

COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY

Anticipated salary range: $18.00/Hour
