The Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating, and developing innovative group exercise programs in alignment with the guidelines set by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine in collaboration with the Wellness Director and the Senior Association Director of Wellness Programming. This role is key to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, where all participants feel supported and empowered to achieve their fitness goals.

What You’ll Do

  • Class Instruction: Conduct group exercise classes in a safe, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
  • Positive Role Model: Serve as a positive YMCA role model, demonstrating an enthusiastic attitude and commitment to the YMCA’s values.
  • Class Management: Ensure all scheduled classes are held, start and end on time, and have coverage secured.
  • Participant Engagement: Greet participants, learn their names, and foster a sense of community.
  • Adaptation and Safety: Assess participants’ limitations and adapt classes accordingly, providing modifications when necessary.
  • Equipment Usage: Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with various class formats.
  • Health Promotion: Actively promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage participants to engage in wellness activities.
  • Professional Development: Attend advanced training workshops offered by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine and participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
  • Instructor Management: Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all group exercise instructors.
  • Program Evaluation: Oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of group exercise programming.
  • Communication: Maintain positive written and oral communication with staff and members.
  • Substitution and Instruction: Instruct fitness classes regularly and serve as a substitute when necessary.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Purchase and maintain fitness equipment to ensure it meets safety standards.
  • Budget Management: Develop, manage, and evaluate the department budget to meet or exceed established goals.
  • Payroll: Schedule, manage, and approve all group exercise payroll, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Wellness Themes: Create and implement monthly wellness themes to enhance program offerings.
  • Certification Compliance: Ensure all staff certifications are current and compliant with YMCA standards.
  • Team Participation: Attend branch staff meetings, Health Strategies Quality Team meetings, and Association trainings.
  • Support Responsibilities: Assist the Wellness Director with assigned responsibilities related to the group exercise program.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

What You’ll Need

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching group exercise classes required.
  • Possess and maintain at least one Group Exercise certification from a nationally accredited organization.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively utilize technology for program needs; experience with Upace software is preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain Foundations of Group Exercise or a nationally recognized Group Exercise certification within six months of the hire date.
  • Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and training within 90 days of hire.
