Job Description – Group Director, Quality, General Merchandise


A global leadership position that is responsible for end-to-end quality execution for Walmart Sourcing. This position takes charge of leading and being the champion to drive quality strategies across all the product lines (apparel, footwear, jewelry, accessories, electrical & electronics, furniture and other hard goods etc).


Essential Functions

  • This pivotal role is responsible for developing and executing quality strategy, mission and vision for the organization that is effectively communicated and aligned with key stakeholders across the enterprise
  • Lead a dedicated team of quality professionals, driving Quality Excellence within their area of responsibility while collaborating closely with the greater Global Quality organization and cross-functional partners
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key community outreach and involvement initiatives; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas
  • Assures overall quality and safety of Walmart private brand products by measuring, assessing, and weighing and combining supplier, factory, and product ratings against set product criteria; reacting to immediate safety concerns including product withdraws/recalls; overseeing the implementation of preventive practices; and benchmarking Private Brand industry practices
  • Directs overall quality strategy for Private Brands to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of achieving quality goals by making use of the most current technology, systems, processes, and people to increase quality and decrease costs; soliciting field associate feedback; employing statistically valid means of determining greatest risks and opportunities; and supporting suppliers in the efforts to identify opportunities and improve quality for Walmart customers
  • Championing a culture of quality excellence throughout the organization, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related inquiries to stakeholders
  • Participate in the development and deployment of Global Quality standards and ensure deployment within the region of responsibility
  • Develop and implement comprehensive quality management system best practices to ensure compliance with industry standards and customers' expectations
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance processes and procedures for all aspects of product/service development, manufacturing, and delivery
  • Lead a team of quality assurance professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure effective execution of quality assurance activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including suppliers and 3rd parties’ services, to identify quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions to ensure risk mitigation to support Walmart sourcing objectives
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of quality management systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze quality data and metrics to track performance trends, identify root causes of quality issues, and develop strategies for improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product/service quality, reduce defects, and improve customer satisfaction
  • Report on the status of KPIs within region and corrective action plans in various meetings, including Quality Quarterly Business Reviews to the Executive Leadership Team

Travel


Travels internationally to and from multiple facilities or worksites requiring extended overnight stays.


Qualifications


  • BA, BS, or equivalent experience in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, ASQ) is a plus.
