Close All Job Summary The CU Boulder Green Labs Program applies a team approach to save water, energy, reduce solid and hazardous waste, and increase efficient use of resources such as research equipment and laboratory space in hundreds of labs on the CU Boulder campus. This position is for a Green Labs full-time Shared Equipment Outreach Coordinator whose role will be to collaborate with engaged laboratory departments to open-up researcher and student access to existing campus laboratory equipment by increasing resource sharing. This position will also manage the resources (including organizing access, coordinating repairs/upkeep of equipment, promoting the availability of the resources, and training new users) as well as provide opportunities for Green Labs student assistants and volunteers (students and/or researchers) to support the effort. The position will best be filled by a person with experience working with research equipment in laboratory environments and with excellent communication and organizing skills. CU is an Equal Opportunity Employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment. We are committed to creating a workplace where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and we encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities. Who We Are Established in 1970, the student-powered Environmental Center has evolved its leadership from advocacy to launching innovative techniques to expanding partnerships with campus and community organizations and, increasingly, to an innovative focus on student engagement. Our mission is to catalyze and facilitate sustainability culture and practices for the campus. Striving for environmental conservation, social equity and economic vitality, the Environmental Center's continuing purpose is to: * Innovate: We spark and foster entrepreneurship opportunities for students, staff and the campus. * Educate: We offer educational and applied learning opportunities for campus and community. * Empower: We provide a platform for student leadership, engagement, and inclusion with increasing alignment with and service to underrepresented students and groups. * Collaborate: We cultivate and deliver sustainability programs and services with campus and community partners. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Outreach to lab departments, labs, researchers and STEM classes: * Identify laboratory departments interested in working with CU Boulder Green Labs to increase the availability of shared research equipment in lab buildings for campus researcher and student use. * Engage lab groups to nominate equipment for sharing or re-distribution (most will be underutilized or unused equipment). * Work with laboratory departments and laboratory groups to identify lab spaces where shared equipment can be set-up, and coordinate user access. * Outreach to instructors of STEM classes to raise awareness about educational opportunities with the shared equipment and the availability of the resources for student senior projects (via help of the Shared Research Equipment Coordinator). * Participate in new student and new faculty orientations to raise awareness of the shared equipment resources. * Manage information about the available shared equipment resources on the Green Labs website and RIO Shared Instrumentation Network site. Equipment management, training, compliance, and metrics tracking: * Assess equipment resources nominated for sharing or re-distribution (Is the equipment a good candidate for sharing? If the equipment requires repair, is the resource worth the cost of repair?). * Coordinate, set-up, and manage the shared equipment resources including troubleshooting problems, coordinating repairs, and following federal and campus requirements for equipment tracking and compliance. * Train new users (the largest group of users are graduate students working in labs). * Work with Distribution Center to redistribute surplus equipment and dispose equipment not worth keeping. * Track metrics such as the number of labs, researchers, and students using the equipment, the number of pieces of equipment that have become shared resources or redistributed, and the value of equipment assets that have not been purchased due to access to shared resources. Grow student professional development and educational opportunities: * Provide Green Labs student assistant staff (graduate and undergraduate) with opportunities to assist with equipment management, trainings, and program outreach and manage their work (similar to the student support provided for the Green Labs Shared Ultra-Low Temperature Freezer Program). * Enable the opportunity for researchers and students to volunteer to help with overseeing equipment assets. * Provide tours and equipment demonstrations to student groups and classes.
