As per Graduate Council policy, graduate students who will hold other positions must receive approval from their head Graduate Advisor to work more than 50% time (all positions combined). Students on fellowship must confirm that the terms of their fellowship allow them to work 10 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters.


Description:

The Graduate Division and Center for Financial Wellness are hiring a graduate student assistant to continue to develop a financial literacy curriculum relevant to academic and professional graduate students, with a focus on tailoring resources for marginalized student populations (including undocumented students, disabled students, and student parents). Topics of interest include investing and saving for retirement and negotiating job offers. This position will also participate in the Center for Financial Wellness peer financial wellness coach team and assist with 1:1 coaching for graduate students. Coaching appointments will assist students with budgeting, financial goal setting, managing debt, credit, and other personal finance topics. 


Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Assist the Financial Wellness Manager with strategic planning and assessment of financial wellness resources offered to graduate student populations.
  • Resource development: Develop presentations, guides, and informational materials on the topics of taxes, investing, and financial wellness for a graduate and professional student audience.
  • Workshop facilitation: Organize and facilitate financial wellness workshops and events
  • Coaching: Conduct 1:1 appointments and consultations to help graduate students manage their personal finances
  • Communications and Outreach: Write and publish articles for GradNews; contribute to social media campaigns and blog posts; develop strategies for disseminating resources.


Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, motivation and dedication
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds in an advising capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team or independently, as needed
  • Professional or personal experience and background related to personal finances or taxes


Preferred Qualifications include one or more of the following:

  • Experience or familiarity with filing taxes as a graduate student
  • Experience with graphic design and marketing
  • Familiarity with campus resources and systems
