This camp is designed for middle school and high school students, with a focus on robotics and drone applications. Our mission is to empower underrepresented students by providing them with hands-on experiences and exposure to cutting-edge engineering technologies. In this compensated role, you will leverage your robotics project experience to guide small groups of students through lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities using platforms such as programmable mini-size quadrotor drones and Lego Mindstorms.
- Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Curriculum Delivery: Conduct engaging lectures and interactive sessions on robotics principles, drone applications, and related engineering topics. Lead hands-on lab sessions, guiding students through practical exercises using robotics platforms (e.g., quadrotor drones, Lego Mindstorms). Adapt teaching methods to suit a diverse group of K-12 students, ensuring content is accessible and inspiring. Brainstorm engaging field trip experiences.
- Student Engagement & Support: Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for approximately 10 students per class. Mentor and encourage students, helping them develop problem-solving and teamwork skills. Provide clear, effective communication and feedback to students during instructional sessions.
- Program Collaboration: Work closely with the camp coordinator and fellow instructors to plan and refine session content. Assist with pre-camp preparation, including classroom setup, material preparation, and demonstration rehearsals. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions prior to and during the camp.
- Safety & Administration: Ensure a safe and orderly classroom environment in compliance with university policies. Maintain attendance records and assist in the documentation of student progress. Support any additional administrative tasks as needed by camp organizers.
- Required Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) in engineering, robotics, computer science, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in robotics projects, such as research or hands-on work in robotics-related applications. Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple, accessible terms. Prior experience working with K-12 students or a strong interest in educational outreach. A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively in small team settings. Availability for the full duration of the camp during July 2025.
- Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching, tutoring, or workshop facilitation experience. Familiarity with programmable mini-size quadrotor drones and Lego Mindstorms platforms. A passion for mentoring and promoting STEM among underrepresented groups.
Compensation: $3,000
Application Process: Interested candidates should submit the following: A current CV or resume outlining relevant academic and project experiences.
