Job Summary

Position is responsible for providing support to program management of game day operations of all campus athletic activites, competitions, and events. Responsible for providing assistance to the management of all student employment related to these programs.

Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REQRUIED DUTIES OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

  • Provide support to a first-class game day environment for student athletes, coaches, teams, fans and visitors. Assist with coordination and support for all home intercollegiate athletic events as assigned.
  • Oversee game day student staff, work with other department staff (i.e. Sports Information, Marketing), work with other campus departments (i.e. facilities, security, music, student activities), as well as outside vendors, and game officials.
  • Assist with the staffing and scheduling of student workers. Train game day staff, support staff and supervisors. Assist with physical setup and breakdown of events as needed. Resolve complaints or problems that arise during events while instilling a Champions of Character game day culture and experience for all to enjoy.
  • Assist with ticket sales operations including accounting of all gate receipts including concession stand operations and revenues. Oversee all aspects of concession stand operations (i.e. stocking, scheduling workers, maintaining equipment).
  • Assist in the execution of a robust schedule of game day promotions including in- game, half-time and game promotional events driving attendance.
  • Provide support and coordination to communications with visiting teams. Ensure the departments "Visiting Team Guide" is up to date with accurate information and distribute to teams prior to their games. Assist teams with bus drop-off and pick-up, parking, locker room assignments, practice times, and any other needs they arise.
  • Assist in the scheduling of games and practices in athletic facilities. Work with coaches to ensure their schedules are up-to-date and do not conflict with other teams.
  • Assist in the management of athletic department transportation as needed. Ensure department policies and procedures are followed specific to the scheduling of vehicle use, issuing of keys and vehicle maintenance.
  • Provide support to management of sports inventory of all athletic facility equipment. Work with repairs as needed and coordinate the disposal of equipment that is no longer in use.
  • Work with the Unit Work Study Coordinator for the entire Ottawa Residential Campus. Establishes federal & institutional budgets for all departments on campus, helps managers in hiring students, and assists students in getting hired.

Graduate Assistant General Information

A limited number of graduate assistants are available through various departments and campus locations.

The selected candidates will be granted tuition waiver (18 credit hours per year) for one of Ottawa University's graduate programs, a partial meal allowance and a bi-weekly living stipend paid over 12 months. Renewals for a second year are based on the evidence of academic performance and quality execution of assigned duties.

International candidates are only eligible to pursue the on-campus MBA degree of the programs that are offered. International students must also be able to secure an F1 student visa and meet the international admissions criteria for acceptance into the Ottawa University MBA program.

Appointments are generally made to those students who have shown superior aptitude in their field of study as an undergraduate and who appear likely to render a high quality of service to the University through their appointment and service activities.

All Graduate Assistants must be eligible to work in the United States and present the proper documentation to the Human Resources Department prior to beginning their graduate assistantship.

Academic Requirements

An individual must first be accepted and enrolled in an Ottawa University graduate program to be eligible for appointment as a Graduate Assistant. Admission requirements are as follows:

  • Submission of official undergraduate transcripts (3.0 GPA – minimum requirement) earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Submission of a personal statement regarding career goals and three professional references.
