Governance and Risk Consultant to join our clients’ dynamic team. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in governance, risk, and control functions, particularly within the financial services sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting risk assessments, control evaluations, and compliance initiatives across Personal and Business Banking, Commercial Banking, and Wealth Management for our client, a Big 5 Bank.
Client: Big 5 Bank
Location: Downtown Toronto. 1 day in office
Duration of Contract/Perm: 6-month contract to begin with opportunity to extend to 18 months or convert.
Hours/week: 37.5 hrs
Start date: June 2025

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Governance and Risk Consultant to join our clients’ dynamic team. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in governance, risk, and control functions, particularly within the financial services sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting risk assessments, control evaluations, and compliance initiatives across Personal and Business Banking, Commercial Banking, and Wealth Management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and draft risk assessments for change initiatives, including identification of controls, deficiencies, and incidents.
- Facilitate and document Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs).
- Collaborate with business units to ensure effective risk mitigation strategies are in place.
- Analyze and report on control deficiencies and incidents, recommending remediation plans.
- Support internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Prepare clear, concise, and insightful reports and presentations for senior stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business partners, influencing risk-aware decision-making.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a governance, risk, and control role within financial services.
- Strong understanding of products and services in:
- Personal and Business Banking (e.g., credit cards, mortgages, loans, deposits, insurance)
- Commercial Banking and Wealth Management (e.g., deposits, lending, asset management)
- Background in internal/external audit or compliance; MBA or CPA designation is a strong asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Comfortable working in a high-energy, deadline-driven, and collaborative environment.
