Job Description

Position Title: Geotechnical Engineer

Department: Geotech

Reports to: Geotech Lead

Employment Status: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Geotechnical Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in geotechnical engineering and demonstrate expertise in Construction Materials Testing (CMT). This role combines fieldwork, laboratory testing, and engineering design to support a variety of infrastructure and construction projects. Ability to manage resources and lead others. Gifted in getting things and making things happened.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Geotechnical Engineering

  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site exploration, soil and rock sampling, and logging of subsurface conditions.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports with recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, and pavement design.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis using industry-standard software for settlement, bearing capacity, and lateral earth pressure.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop cost-effective engineering solutions.

Construction Materials Testing (CMT)

  • Perform field testing and inspection of construction materials such as soil, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Review and interpret test results to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Prepare daily field reports documenting test results, observations, and non-compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with contractors and project managers to resolve construction material-related issues.

Project Coordination & Communication

  • Serve as deputy for business unit including management of people and resources, working with clients for additional business development, representing business unit as subject matter expert.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Support senior engineers with proposal preparation, project planning, and technical review.
  • Train junior staff and technicians in geotechnical and CMT methodologies.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering and/or construction materials testing.
  • Proven track record of conducting field investigations, geotechnical analyses, and/or construction materials testing.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience via project leadership, people leadership, mentoring/coaching, piers or subordinates with direct reports

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software (e.g., GeoStudio, gINT, Slide, etc.).
  • Experience with testing equipment for soil, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Strong understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, and other relevant standards.

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven track record managing resources that don’t report to you in a project management role

Preferred Qualifications (knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

  • Experience with laboratory testing of soils and materials.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and inspection protocols.
  • Familiarity with CAD or GIS tools for site layout and reporting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position entails work in both indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to weather conditions.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the required functions.

  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to physically maneuver construction sites and excavations
  • Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communications in the English language, including the ability to communicate directly and over the telephone and be understood.
