Your work environment at EXP

EXP is looking for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Manager to establish and operate this branch. The work includes transportation, transit, tunnel and building projects . In this role, you will be a part of our Mid-Atlantic Sector, based in our Fairfax, VA office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Prepare and implement geotechnical field investigation and testing programs in accordance with state and local DOTs, various public agencies, and private clients.
  • Manage geotechnical and geological analyses, manage staff and support sub-consultants, review geotechnical engineering analyses and laboratory testing results, and design recommendations.
  • Prepare recommendations for various foundation support alternatives, including drilled shafts, driven piles, augercast piles, micro-piles, intermediate foundations (i.e., geo-piers), reinforced concrete mat foundations, and shallow foundations.
  • Evaluate and provide subgrade recommendations, including subgrade alteration/modification (i.e., excavation and replacement, chemically stabilizing the existing soil with additives such as cement, lime, soil densification, and geosynthetic reinforcement) for supporting flexible and concrete pavements.
  • Evaluate and provide geotechnical engineering recommendations for foundations supported on and into rock.
  • Evaluate and provide geotechnical engineering recommendations for foundation supported on soft soils.
  • Prepare, implement and manage instrumentation monitoring program.
  • Interact with support staff including designers, document production staff, and graphics technicians.

What Your Experience Looks Like

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Must possess Professional Engineer License in Virginia and Maryland.
  • A minimum of 15 to 20 years geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with multiple aspects of geotechnical engineering.
  • A seller doer skill.
  • Design-build, progressive design-build and Public-Private Partnership (P3) experience.
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in writing, reviewing, and editing technical reports to ensure conformance with scope, quality and client expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and a desire to work with diverse interest groups.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment and professionalism.
  • Self-motivated and have the ability to manage projects to meet technical, quality, budgetary and scheduling requirements.
  • Prepare proposals, geotechnical and geological documents.
  • Team players and have the skill to train and mentor other junior geotechnical staff while developing geotechnical documents.
  • Have ability to respond to questions and criticisms from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

The salary range for this role is $200,000 to $250,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
