The Role:

We are seeking a highly organized and results-driven General Project Manager to lead, plan, and execute a variety of projects across different departments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget while aligning with the company’s strategic goals.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage project interfaces within Transmission (Grid Planning, Grids, Engineering, Construction Management, Lands and Rights, etc.) and, where applicable, outside Transmission (external customers, stakeholders, Distribution, Generation, etc.).
  • Oversee the Concept and Definition Phases of the project.
  • Organize and chair meetings.
  • Lead and coordinate other disciplines to develop required project deliverables.
  • Follow up on deliverables and ensure effective communication.
  • Properly document all meetings, decisions, studies, etc.
  • Report on project progress.
  • Manage project-related budgets and costs, including working on SAP PPM.
  • Deliver project management outputs such as the project charter and estimates for different phases of the PLCM.
  • Develop a project time plan detailing duration, lead-times, sequence, start-finish, critical parts, etc. The schedule should be detailed enough for time-based costing, milestone identification, and procurement strategy, but not necessarily a detailed execution schedule. Include dates/milestones for project approval.
  • Compile, establish, and manage internal and external contracts for development work during the Concept and Definition phases as needed.
  • Conduct project reviews and Project Definition Readiness Assessments (PDRA's).
  • Obtain necessary Concept, Definition, and Execution Release Approvals (CRA, DRA, ERA) for project development and implementation.
  • Create a high-level plan/schedule to meet project development targets.
  • Develop a RACI matrix and stakeholder plan for project responsibilities.
  • Manage the concept and detailed design and engineering deliverables, including integrated substation, PTMC, line, and telecoms concepts and detailed designs and design reports.
  • Secure design governance approvals.
  • Estimate associated engineering labor costs.
  • Implement scope and design freeze.
  • Conduct constructability assessments.
  • Perform specific studies needed for the project.
  • Prepare proformas for long lead items.
  • Develop specifications and requirements for tender purposes, including packaging requirements for "EPC type" contracting.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in Substations and Lines environment.
  • Professional Registration: Registered with the South African Council of aspects.
  • Project and Construction Management Professionals (SACPCMP)
  • Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM).
