Summary

The General Manager position is responsible and accountable for establishing and maintaining excellence in administration and the development of all programming at the Healthplex Fitness Center, including ensuring safe, effective and efficient provision of fitness and wellness services. This position directs and manages all aspects of club operations, business office and budget, and the facility. The position coordinates activities and services of the Healthplex with other Hospital services and programs as well as other RUSH entities. The position models the Club's mission, vision and values and ensures that operations result in high quality, team oriented, member-focused and cost-effective services. The position acts in accordance with Rush Copley Medical Center and Rush Copley Healthplex policies and procedures and holds others accountable for meeting regulatory and best practice standards. Position Performance Area/Expectations: General Operations * Plans and directs the delivery of Fitness Center services and functions such as membership sales and member retention, massage services, facility maintenance, program development and implementation, policy generation and enforcement, emergency management training, facility promotion, program pricing, etc. * Develops, recommends and implements operational and strategic plans and goals. * Oversees development and implementation of various fitness and health programs, including working with the RUSH marketing team on marketing/communication programs designed to promote healthier lifestyles and increase awareness of the Club and Hospital services. * Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, policies, procedures and programs and compliance with all ensures regulatory and enterprise requirements. * Maintains cooperative working relationship with various Hospital management personnel in order to coordinate programs and services such as Parkinson's, OP rehab, cardiac rehabilitation, and health promotion events. * Serves as resource in resolving difficult and/or complex problems and in investigating and initiating corrective actions in response to incidents and/or members' complaints. * Serves as resource for department personnel in resolving member and/or program problems and/or complaints. * Directs and oversees the member management system (CA), to ensure the accuracy of member account demographics and billing records in conjunction with business office and membership staff. Serves as liaison to member management software vendor and other outside consultants. Proactively looks for ways to optimize the system and provide staff training. * Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences and the like. Management Functions * Manages and coaches the Healthplex leadership team. * Provides consistent, responsive, and accountable leadership to direct reports. * Upholds and leads by example the mission, vision and values of the Healthplex and RCMC through staff training, senior management team activities, customer relations, internal communications and supervision of staff. * Effectively and professionally present and communicate information. * Maintains Healthplex image and reputation through professional conduct, communication and interactions with staff, members and the community. * Works within the community and develops new programs that involve health and fitness related topics. * * Quality and Safety * Works to continuously improve the member and participant experience. * Assures all policies and processes, the environment, and the facility support safety of members, employees and guests. * Financial Operations * Develops and prepares, secures approval of and administers annual capital and operating budgets necessary in order to achieve agreed-upon goals and objectives. Manages and consults with management staff for departmental budget submissions, including revenues, payroll and expense planning. Develops and implements appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances. * Reviews and approves (within company limits) equipment purchases, supply purchases, equipment repairs, building maintenance and renovation and the like. Recommends and secures approval of capital expenditures and operational expenditure above role approval limits. * Works closely with AVP, Business Office Supervisor, Jr. Accountant and Accounting leadership to ensure all AP and AR responsibilities are met and workflows are optimized, verify purchase orders and invoices have proper approval, ensure account coding is correct, maintain vendor files and contracts. * Through oversight of the Business Office staff, directs the monthly billing process of all outstanding amounts due for members accounts, reviews and ensures accuracy of billing file, and collection process of past due accounts in accordance with Healthplex policies. * Responsible for oversight of the Club's Pro-shop, including ensuring inventory and appropriate sales procedures and protocols are followed. * In conjunction with Director, Fitness Programs, develops and approves center programming, prices and structures. Develops all new program pro-formas to verify profitability and seeks approval from AVP prior to implementation. * Plan, forecast, and report on revenue, costs and business performance on a monthly basis. * Ensures department and overall Healthplex financial goals and budget are achieved. * Human Resources - Works under the direction of the Rush Copley Medical Center Director of Human Resources to coordinate and manage the following Human Resource and Payroll functions. * Ensures all payroll functions in accordance with Healthplex and Rush Copley Medical Center policy, oversees the audit of biweekly payroll prior to submission. Reviews post submission payroll reports for accuracy. * In coordination with the Human Resources department, oversee the review and approval of new hire paperwork, corrective actions, performance reviews, and terminations. * Interviews, hires, evaluates the performance of and when necessary, disciplines and discharges subordinate personnel. Approves hiring and discharge recommendations and assists supervisory personnel in resolving complex relations matters. * Implements Human Resource policies and procedures in alignment with Rush Copley Medical Center policies and procedures. * Design, manage, and facilitate employee training plans, including new employee orientation, and ongoing training programs. * Facility Operations * Monitors and oversees upkeep and condition of all departments' equipment, fixtures, and facilities. * Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the facility. Oversees the relationship with the contracted cleaning company. * Responsible for the overall maintenance needs of the Healthplex. * Ensures appropriate equipment and facility maintenance policies and procedures are established and followed. * Position Requirements: * Education: Bachelor's degree in business studies, exercise science, or health care/fitness related field required. * Certifications: Current CPR/AED certification * Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a management position in the fitness industry or related healthcare experience. * Other: * Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to Word, Excel and PowerPoint. * Strong financial and business acumen. Experience in implementation of capital/operating budgets, human resource development, marketing, retail/membership sales, medical integration and wellness programming preferred. * Strong people management experience and skills. * Ability to lead a team and manage multiple projects through completion with high level of organizational skill, efficiency, and goal attainment. * Excellent interpersonal communications and leadership skills, including the ability to develop and sustain strong interdepartmental relationships. * Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Must have excellent organizational skills. * Possesses the ability to work in high pressure situations, manage multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions and have a strong attention to detail. * Customer service-oriented and able to relate to all levels of staff.
