Summary

We're looking for a Functional Analyst with COBOL expertise to support a major systems transformation for one of our clients.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the migration of a mission-critical legacy system into a modern Java-based ecosystem. The role requires a strong technical foundation in COBOL, a strategic mindset for transformation planning, and a collaborative spirit to work alongside solution architects and developers.

Role & Responsibilities

As a key member of the transformation team, you will:

  • Audit and catalogue existing COBOL programs and their current usage.
  • Analyze and document legacy programs and their underlying data models.
  • Collaborate closely with Java architects and analysts to define modern Java equivalents for existing COBOL components.
  • Recommend tools and strategies for code and logic migration, leveraging and extending existing Java-based components where feasible.
  • Define comprehensive testing strategies to validate the new solution.
  • Develop a detailed roadmap with deliverables, timelines, and phased deployment plans.
  • Lead the migration phase, overseeing operations, managing risks, and ensuring milestones are met.
  • Drive toward a complete decommissioning of the COBOL application by May 2026.


Technical Profile

The ideal candidate will bring the following experience and skills:

  • Strong hands-on expertise in COBOL.
  • Solid understanding of transaction middleware such as Tuxedo or CICS.
  • Familiarity with Java and the J2EE stack.
  • Proficient in SQL and database modeling.
  • Experienced in test case development and test planning.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and familiarity with tools like Jira.
  • Demonstrated success in similar legacy-to-modernization projects.


Important: this client expects the ideal candidate to have a Master degree.
