Job Summary
The Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah is seeking a full stack web developer. You would be part of a team that creates and maintains web applications for our department as well as digital publications in collaboration with partners in other departments and universities. You will need to have a strong knowledge of backend development and database design, but experience with frontend design and content management is a plus. Knowledge of security best practices, design, and mitigation methodologies is highly preferred.

Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Senior Web Designer, back-end logic of all Eccles Library websites and work to maintain the front-end design.
- Develop code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React and/or Angular Frameworks, PHP, Perl, Bash, etc.
- Interview internal and external stakeholders, anticipating their typical functions and projected solution experiences
- Assess current tools available and appropriate for solutions, and refine specifications
- Write and refine custom code, including testing and agreed-upon revisions
- Manage peripheral site issues: security solutions and attack responses, server migrations for major software (OS, Web) updates, site search, Web statistics implementation and management and reporting, mass reconfiguration/event adaptation of code and files, server configurations.
- Knowledge of general CMS frameworks WordPress, Drupal, CSS Framework Bootstrap, Modern Campus, third-party SaaS, etc.
- Technical advising for library and university staff as well as external stakeholders
- Able to research new technologies on a self-directed basis.
- Dedication to documentation writing
- Understanding of security best practices and authentication and authorization. E.g. website hardening, cross-site scripting, SQL injection. SSO, SAML
- Database design & management
- Google Analytics setup, segmentation, tags management, & reporting

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2-5 years of programmer/analyst or related experience.

Preferences
- Expertise in full-stack development languages, tools, and methodologies
- Knowledge of web server administration including Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, and module add-ons
- Proficiency in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, Perl, SQL, and other programing languages
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrable commitment to customer service
- Experience with WordPress administration and content management
- Knowledge of LAMP stack administration, specifically Ubuntu Linux server distributions
