Summary

Purpose of Role:

Surlean Foods’ role of FSQA Technical Services Manager is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the overall quality and compliance of products and processes within the organization. This position involves developing and implementing corporate quality assurance policies and procedures to achieve high standards of excellence and customer satisfaction. The FSQR Technical Services Manager collaborates with cross-functional departments to drive continuous improvement and maintain regulatory compliance. This position reports to the VP of FSQR.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Work in conjunction with the VP of Quality to develop and implement a strategic Quality Department that proactively identifies quality issues and works toward effective and efficient solutions.
  • Lead the improvement and maintenance of the Quality Management System in compliance with customer/regulatory requirements, BRC and industry specifications, including our online compliance module.
  • Ensure conformance to quality and food safety program requirements by performing BRC internal audits, environmental monitoring activities, root cause analysis and preventive actions exercises, mock recalls and proactively collaborating with peers.
  • Support quality team activities during commercialization of new products and drive improvement of products in the monitor and control stage to ensure all products produced at Surlean Foods meets food safety and quality requirements.
  • Train and develop a skilled and motivated Supplier QA Team by setting performance objectives and providing regular feedback, coaching and guidance to team members.
  • Assist the quality team members with root cause analysis processes (5 Whys) to assist in proper corrective actions and preventative measure for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and write policies and procedures, as required, to support our BRC and customer standards, including charts to show conformance and trending.
  • Interface with other departments to aid in resolving problems including training in areas of work affecting quality and food safety.
  • Establish/maintain relations with customer/government representatives in quality and food safety related activities, including inspections, external audits and customer audits and visits.
  • Support and train on HACCP/FSMA compliance with Food Safety teams to ensure compliance to all current food safety regulations and guidelines for FDA, USDA, and customers.
  • Responsible for the QA Tech Services/Supplier Management Team.
  • And any other duties as assigned by the VP of FSQR.

Key Experiences:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Animal (Meat) Science, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field preferred
    • OR
  • 5+ years in Quality Management experience with emphasis on standards development and implementation
  • Significant knowledge of food safety programs and procedures – USDA, FSMA, GFSI/BRC, HACCP, GMPs, auditing, sanitation, Shelf Stable Better Process Control, etc.
  • Strong performance management and demonstrated success in motivating, engaging, coaching, and developing teams of 10+ employees.
  • Excellent time management; tracking, monitoring, and maintaining productivity.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills with ability to interact with and influence all peer levels of the organization.
  • Ability to build credibility and trust within the organization, while influencing team members and leaders to develop a food safety and quality culture.
  • Bring focus, purpose, and agility to motivate others to adapt quickly to changing business needs.
  • Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical analysis to determine capability of process.
  • Flexible to work nights, weekends and/or holidays when needed.
  • Flexible for travel to all manufacturing facilities
