Overview
We are seeking an experienced Front Office Python Developer to join a high-performance development team within the trading division of a leading global investment management firm. This role is critical in supporting the trading desk with real-time systems, pricing tools, and integrations that directly impact the firm's execution and decision-making capabilities.
Project Overview
The focus of this role is to design, develop, and maintain front office applications supporting multiple asset classes,
including equities, fixed income, FX, and derivatives. You'll collaborate closely with traders, business analysts, and fellow developers to deliver real-time market data feeds, pricing and risk tools, trade capture and blotter systems, as well as integration pipelines with OMS and EMS platforms such as Bloomberg, FlexTrade, and Fidessa.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain real-time trading tools and market data integrations using Python.
- Collaborate with traders and front office stakeholders to rapidly prototype and iterate on new features.
- Design UIs for desk tools using modern frameworks (React/TypeScript preferred).
- Integrate internal systems with external platforms (e.g., market data feeds, trading venues, brokers).
- Optimize system performance and ensure low-latency data handling.
- Develop robust APIs and data services that power pricing, analytics, and execution.
- Monitor application health, troubleshoot production issues, and implement automated alerting.
- Follow agile development practices and participate in sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
Strategic Initiatives
- Strong experience in Python, particularly for real-time or front office applications.
- Experience working directly with traders, portfolio managers, or trading desk teams.
- Solid understanding of financial instruments and trading workflows (across asset classes).
- Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, and streaming services (Kafka a plus).
- Exposure to React or similar frameworks for front-end development.
- Experience with data stores like PostgreSQL and Redis; knowledge of message brokers.
- Comfortable in Linux environments, with scripting and DevOps familiarity (CI/CD, Docker, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to act as a technical advisor to business users.
- Experience in a trading, brokerage, or investment management environment is essential.
Nice To Have
- Familiarity with Bloomberg, Refinitiv, or other financial data providers.
- Exposure to FIX protocols and trade lifecycle management.
- Prior experience working in agile teams within the capital markets domain.
- Interest in building UIs/tools that improve trader efficiency and execution performance
