We are currently looking for an FPGA/Firmware Engineer to join the team in the Leiden Area.


As an FPGA/Firmware Engineer, you will contribute to the development of advanced electronics systems for the space sector. The role focuses on the design, implementation, and verification of VHDL-based firmware for products such as optical modems and data processing systems. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex, cutting-edge systems within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.


Responsibilities:

  • Analyse system and interface requirements to define architectures and functional decomposition at the component and FPGA level
  • Design, implement, and simulate firmware using VHDL
  • Integrate and verify firmware designs on target hardware platforms
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, embedded software developers, and project managers
  • Support qualification and test activities during product validation phases
  • Document architectural decisions, design details, simulation results, and interface control specifications


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronics Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in FPGA/firmware development
  • Proven proficiency in VHDL coding, synthesis, and timing verification
  • Familiarity with OSVVM is considered an advantage
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital circuits and related interfaces is desirable
  • Strong teamwork and proactive problem-solving mindset
  • Effective communication skills in English within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in on-hardware validation using lab test equipment is a plus
  • Understanding of modulation, coding, and digital signal processing techniques is an asset
  • Previous exposure to aerospace or space-related engineering environments is beneficial
