IENAI SPACE is an early-stage startup located in Madrid, developing an end-to-end ecosystem of in-space mobility products, including propulsion systems and engineering SaaS. How will you contribute to IENAI SPACE?
As a Firmware Main Developer, you will be the owner and main responsible for all firmware development related to our ATHENA Nano propulsion system. You will be in charge of the architecture design, implementation and continuous improvement of the firmware solutions, ensuring their functionality, reliability and safety.
This role requires a proactive engineer who can prioritize tasks effectively, work with agility, and take full ownership of firmware development. If you enjoy tackling open-ended technical challenges and working in an environment where your contributions have a direct impact, this role is for you!
Your key responsibilities will include:
- End-to-End Firmware ownership: lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of firmware for our ATHENA Nano propulsion system.
- Technical feasibility assessment: evaluate design concepts and propose robust technical solutions.
- Architecture design: define and structure firmware components to create a modular, scalable, and maintainable system.
- Testing and verification: develop and execute both automated and manual tests to validate firmware performance and reliability.
- System integration: work closely with the hardware team to ensure seamless integration of firmware into our propulsion systems.
- Technical reviews and documentation: participate in design and milestone reviews, ensuring the highest quality and alignment with project goals.
What is your department like?
You will be part of our Electrical Engineering and Electronics team, which is part of our Electric Propulsion department. This team is in charge of designing, testing, manufacturing and has the mission of continuous improvement of the electronic devices that enable thruster operation.
What will make you succeed?
We are looking for (must have):
- At least 5 years of PROVEN experience in firmware development.
- Strong coding skills in C and C++, specifically for the Microchip ARM MCU family.
- Experience with FreeRTOS or SafeRTOS.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work autonomously.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
We also value (nice to have):
- Experience in space applications or industries with strict safety/reliability requirements (medical, automotive, railway, avionics, etc.).
- Familiarity with MISRA C or other safety/reliability-oriented software guidelines.
- Experience with Python for testing and automation.
- Passion for space technology and a willingness to grow within a young, dynamic team.
