Summary

Director, Finance (Legal Firm) Downtown Toronto


Compensation Package: $175,000 - $190,000 + discretionary annual bonus + 4 weeks’ vacation + full benefits package + RSP Match + Educational Reimbursement


Team: Reporting directly to the COO | Total Accounting Team Size – 20


The Director of Finance is responsible for ensuring the efficient operations of the finance team (Accounting/Billing/Collections) and works in closely with and reporting into the COO, providing support to the management team.


Responsible for firm-wide financial reporting, general and partnership accounting, partner draws & capital accounts, general ledger, preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements, overseeing the annual budget process, the annual audit, preparation of the firm's tax filings, managing the Finance/Accounting Team.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for managing all Financial, review of GL, HST/GST/VAT filings, cash flows, partners draw & capital accounts, and preparation of a variety or reports and surveys.
  • Remains current with GAAP, and tax legislative changes and provide timely directions to finance staff by reviewing work as necessary.
  • Works with other Accounting/Billing/Collections Supervisors in developing accounting policies and procedures and managing the day-to-day operations of each time.
  • Provides leadership and directs the team in a fast-paced efficient work environment in order to meet deliverables - high-quality, accurate and time-sensitive output.
  • Provides ongoing training and developmental opportunities for Finance team members.
  • Year-end closing and review of general ledger, coordinate yearend audit with our auditors and review of consolidated audit, work with auditors to complete the audit on a timely basis
  • Filing of tax returns for partnership Information Return for Partnership and various entities corporate tax returns.
  • Stay up to date with Budgets and Tax changes and advise COO of any potential issues.
  • Regular review and monitoring of the existing financial systems and invite feedback from the users.
  • Conducts annual team member evaluations. Identifies and clarifies team member development needs and provides mentoring, training and direction.
  • Assists with annual budget process, statutory audits and Law Society Filings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Education & Experience:


  • CPA Designated
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior managerial role, leading a team of finance professionals
  • Law firm experience is a strong asset, other professional services will be considered
  • Sound and current knowledge of accounting principles, Partnership Agreements Partnership Tax and Corporate Tax
  • Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
