Summary

Purpose

The Financial Controller will oversee the monthly accounting close process, financial reporting presentation and forecast/budgeting process. Additionally, the Financial Controller will collaboratively work with the Mine General Manager and other members of the Mine Management Team to develop business cases pertaining to growth and sustaining capital investments; approve purchase requisitions; and project-manage Cost Improvement initiatives.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly close process
  • Oversee the mine annual budget, and monthly forecast process
  • Present monthly financial results to Corporate Executive, Mine Management and Corporate Accounting and Finance team members
  • Manage the MTD financial dashboard process to increase cost awareness
  • Develop and present business cases associated with growth and sustaining capex (AFEs)
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions within a broader D of A framework
  • Project manage the Cost Improvement program, this includes responsibility over delivering select individual initiatives within the broader program.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the corporate Procurement department in managing existing and new vendors, product and service changes, bid processes, and contract negotiations within well-established processes
  • Build rapport with commercial and logistics team members
  • Support Mine Management, and Corporate Accounting/Finance teams with ad-hoc strategic and tactical analyses
  • General site-leadership duties as designated by the site GM


Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting is required, master’s degree is preferred. Preferred professional certification, such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Project Management Professional (PMP). 5+ years’ experience in a financial/analytical role is required. Mining industry experience and knowledge is highly desired. The role is based at the Mine Site.


Organizational Factors

The Financial Controller will report to the Treasurer and Senior Director of FP&A, with the primary focus to work with members of Operations. The person in this position will also work closely with members of Procurement, Accounting, Commercial and Executive Management.

  • The individual will possess an aggressive, action-oriented delivery attitude with the ability to analyze, review, and deliver quick turn-around times.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage competing workloads. Must be self-directed and highly motivated with the ability to organize projects, outline priorities, arrange workflow and meet deadlines in a detailed results-oriented fashion
