Department: Financial Aid Salary: $36,294 - $40,000 Description: Job Summary The Financial Aid Counselor I assists prospective and current students with all matters related to acquiring and maintaining financial aid. Duties * Participates and collaborates in outreach activities and special events planning * Creates, organizes, maintains, and promotes financial aid information * Advises students of the financial aid process and procedures * Responds to students' questions and concerns Marginal Duties * Performs all other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities Direct Reports: * None Delegation of Work: * N/A Supervision Given: * N/A Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: * Knowledge of the financial aid process in a higher education environment, and of the related trends, issues, and practices Skills: * Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Publisher and Outlook * Strong analytical and problem solving skills * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Abilities: * Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community Work Location and Physical Demands Primary Work Location: * Works in an office environment Physical Demands: * Work is performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements; the individual has discretion in relation to walking, standing, etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks * Must have precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors * Must have the ability to move items of up to 15 lbs Qualifications Required Education: * Bachelor's degree Required Experience: * Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience License/Certification: * None Required Preferred Qualifications * None All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
