We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Officer to join our retail finance team, on a part-time basis (19 hours per week). This role supports the smooth operation of the Accounts Payable (AP) function—managed via an external service provider—and contributes to accurate and timely financial reporting. The position plays an integral role in ensuring that our vendor payments, tax obligations, and month-end close activities are completed efficiently and in line with business deadlines.


This role is ideal for someone with retail experience who thrives in a dynamic, cross-functional environment. Only part-time candidates (open to working 19 hours per week) and Australian residents who do not need current or future sponsorship, will be considered.


Finance Officer (Part-time), ANZ


Your responsibilities:


Accounts Payable Oversight

  • Oversee the AP function, working closely with our external AP service provider to ensure key vendors are paid on time.
  • Supervise weekly and monthly payment runs and ensure compliance with internal controls and approval workflows.
  • Liaise with retail operations and cross-functional teams to ensure invoices are coded correctly and processed promptly.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline AP processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.


Month-End Close Support

  • Prepare end-of-month accrual journals and ensure all expenses are correctly captured in the reporting period.
  • Review AP and AR ledgers at month-end to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances where needed.


Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and ensure compliance with GST obligations.
  • Support internal reviews of indirect tax treatment and coding.


Reconciliations & Ad Hoc Support

  • Assist with ad hoc reconciliation tasks, including vendor account reviews and invoice investigations.
  • Support the finance team with other duties during peak periods or audits.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of accounts payable processes and retail cost structures
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management, especially with external service providers
  • Sound analytical and reconciliation skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience with large ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) and Excel.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused


Your ideal profile:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and working towards being qualified.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar finance or AP role, preferably within a retail or FMCG environment
  • Experience with BAS preparation and liaising with external service providers (desirable)
