Finance and Operations Manager


Preservation Arts, a privately held, multi-disciplinary art conservation studio in Oakland, California, seeks a dynamic and experienced Finance and Operations Manager to lead its financial, human resources, and administrative functions. This full-time, on-site position requires a strategic leader who can partner with the company's President and Vice President to drive growth and efficiency in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment. 


Responsibilities: 


Financial Leadership:


  • Develop and present comprehensive financial reports and statements to the company president.
  • Oversee and manage cash flow, accounts receivable/payable, and invoicing processes.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track financial health and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and manage tax-related matters.
  • Conduct financial modeling to support strategic decision-making and business planning.
  • Analyze expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize resource allocation.

Human Resources Management:


  • Lead recruitment and retention efforts, developing strategies to attract and retain top talent.
  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Monitor and analyze compensation data to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices.
  • Administer employee benefits programs and manage open enrollment.

Operational and Administrative Oversight:


  • Review client contracts, assess potential risks, and advise the president on contract terms and exposure.
  • Ensure adequate insurance coverage and manage insurance-related matters.
  • Supervise the Office Manager, who handles day-to-day administrative tasks, including bookkeeping, invoicing, expense management, facilities, payroll, purchasing, and providing support to senior management.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in a senior-level finance role within a for-profit services industry.
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Proven experience overseeing financial planning, legal, HR, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to report directly to company executives and serve as a strategic business partner.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • MBA or CPA certification
  • Knowledge of the art industry


Compensation and Benefits:


The salary range for this position is $140,000-165,000. Preservation Arts offers 100% healthcare coverage for employees & 50% dependents, 100% Dental coverage for employees, optional Vision, and a health and dependent care FSA. Employees are eligible to enroll in the company’s 401k plan after 6 months of employment with an automatic 3% company contribution and additional profit sharing and pension contributions. Employees are eligible for annual educational reimbursements for professional development.
