This position involves overseeing the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of controls and building management systems within the data center environment. Typically, controls and BMS comprise of controlling and automation equipment (programmable logic controllers [PLC], automation cards, sensors, operational data analysis and supervision). The Field Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, provides technical expertise, and ensures the reliability and efficiency of the controls, building management and electrical power management components supporting data center operations.

The Data Center Field Engineer – Controls / BMS is the link between Data Center Operations and Data Center Construction and Engineering within Data4. They are directly accountable for delivery of safe, secure, and available operations of all data centers in their span of control. They liaise with Data Center Global Process Owners to suggest process improvements based on field observations, e.g. maintenance criticality, incident severity, follow-up plans.

The Data Center Field Engineer - Controls / BMS will foster a collaborative and knowledge-driven environment, supporting Facility Managers (FMs) and Critical Environment Managers (CEMs) on technical issues and critical operations. Furthermore, the role includes developing technical synergies between the different countries where Data4 operate data centers, increasing operational teams' involvement through training initiatives, and contributing to technical discussions with customers. They contribute to technical requests and discussions with customers and address engineering & design deep dives as needed. They liaise with Data4 Data Center Construction, Design Engineering and their vendors to retrieve technical details and studies requested by customers during audits, e.g. Single Points of Failure, Launch Readiness, or other types of site assessments.

The Data Center Field Engineer – Controls / BMS is tasked with technical audits on data center controls, monitoring and actuation systems’ resilience, as well as in-depth assessments of the ability of Facility Managers (FMs) and Critical Environment Managers (CEMs) to efficiently manage those systems. As such, they actively contribute to increasing the technical knowledge of Facility Managers (FMs) and Critical Environment Managers (CEMs) through structured training programs, knowledge-sharing sessions, and hands-on experience. By organizing regular training initiatives, drills, and knowledge checks, they empower the operational teams to deepen their understanding of controls systems, troubleshooting methodologies, and best practices.
