About The Role
Our client, a leading international manufacturer of high-speed optical transceivers, is seeking a Field Applications Engineer (Hardware Designer) to join their dynamic Automotive Business Unit. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a technical environment, enjoys working closely with R&D and marketing teams, and excels at providing top-tier project and product support for the company’s automotive portfolio.
Your Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Support:
Act as a technical expert, providing comprehensive information and guidance on products designed for automotive applications.
Support customers globally by assisting with project designs, remotely or on-site.
Create technical documentation, block diagrams, schematics, and conduct in-house product and solution tests to meet project requirements.
Design evaluation boards utilising the company’s transceivers for client presentations and demonstrations.
Represent the company at trade fairs, external training sessions, and internal courses, collaborating with marketing teams.
Maintain and update automotive product materials and showroom setups to ensure seamless customer demonstrations.
Post-Sales Support
Provide remote troubleshooting for customer technical issues via phone or email.
Log support cases, escalate technical challenges to Field Application colleagues, R&D, and sales teams.
New Product Development Support
Offer insights on new product ideas and improvements to the marketing team.
Maintain and update technical knowledge bases, incorporating insights from real-world project use cases.
Conduct testing for newly developed products and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Assist in creating training materials and product presentations.
What You Need To Succeed
Required Knowledge & Experience:
Education: BSc or MSc in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering (or equivalent).
Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years in the electronics sector, with experience in hardware design and CAD tools.
Technical Expertise: Preferably knowledgeable in communication transceivers, Ethernet networking (PHY level), and optical communications.
Core Technical Tasks
Hardware design of electronic boards, including schematics, component selection, simulation, and PCB layout.
Development of various board types for ASIC commercial demonstration and evaluation.
Direct communication with PCB manufacturers and assemblers.
Specification of systems and test procedures.
Laboratory testing and debugging of boards based on predefined procedures.
Skills & Tools
EDA Tools: Experience with electronic design automation tools; knowledge of Altium is a plus.
Simulation Software: Proficiency with tools like LTSpice.
Hardware Design: Knowledge of high-speed analog and digital design, EMI/EMC, and PDN techniques.
Communication Protocols: Experience with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, SMI, and similar technologies.
Lab Equipment: Comfortable working with oscilloscopes, VNAs, power supplies, and multimeters.
Debugging Skills: Ability to make small reworks during board bring-up/debugging.
Language: Proficiency in English (all documentation is in English).
