Introduction Anticipated\nopening for the 2025-2026 School Year.\n\n\nMaryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse,\nbilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and\nexemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to\nensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong\nlearners.��As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can\njoin us in the education of the children at MSD.\n LOCATION OF POSITION MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place,\nFrederick, MD 21705\n Main Purpose of Job To provide speech, language, AAC, and aural rehabilitation services to MSD students, including those who may have multiple disabilities. Speech-Language services help support a bilingual approach by facilitating and enhancing student communication skills.\n POSITION DUTIES Administer language, speech, AAC, and auditory skill\ndiagnostic evaluations;\n\n\nConduct speech, language, speech reading, AAC, and\nauditory skills development;\n\n\nEvaluate treatment plans and revise as necessary.\n\n\nPrepare and maintain necessary records and report on\nstudent services and progress;\n\n\nParticipate in any school-based meetings as assigned or\nrequested.\n\n\nServe as an IEP team member, determine present levels of\nperformance, and establish goals specifically addressed to the student's needs;\n\n\nUse developmentally appropriate activities, a variety of\ntherapy materials, various assistive\n�technologies, and oral-motor strategies as\nneeded;\n\n\nAdapt therapy strategies to facilitate student progress,\nincluding service delivery methods (services both inside and outside of the\nclassroom);\n\n\nConsult with other professional and nonprofessional\npersonnel, including conferences with parents and classroom staff, concerning\nstudent performance;\n\n\nAssist with training of classroom staff regarding\namplification equipment, feeding/swallowing precautions, and/or augmentative\ncommunication use;\n\n\nConduct and participate in seminars, in-service and\nprofessional training programs;\n\n\nMaintain confidentiality about students' care;\n\n\nAssume other responsibilities as designated by\nthe Department Head.\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: A minimum of a Master's Degree as set by the Maryland\nState Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists under the licensing\nrequirements.\n\n\nExperience:\nUnder the leadership of the Supervisor of Related Services and in collaboration\nwith an interdisciplinary team, the SLP will evaluate and treat the unique deaf\nand hard-of-hearing population at MSD. Considerations of hearing levels,\nlanguage abilities and cultural diversity are essential to meeting the needs of\nthis population. The SLP will have the knowledge of the theory, principles, and\npractices of speech-language pathology. The SLP will be proficient in the\nability to use a variety of computer programs and applications (i.e. Google, MS\nWord, Touch Chat, Boardmaker, Maryland Online IEP program, etc.) The SLP will\npossess a basic level sign language skills with the willingness to improve ASL\nskills to achieve fluency.\n DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Must be willing to learn and continuously improve American\nSign Language (ASL).\n\n\nMust possess and maintain certification through the\nAmerican Speech-Language Hearing Association.\n\n\nMust take initiative to remain current in\nclinical practice through lectures, literature, and other continuing\neducational opportunities.\n LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Candidates for this position must possess or be qualified\nto receive a current license from the Maryland State Board of Examiners for\nSpeech-Language Pathologists, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.\nA Maryland license must be obtained before this candidate can start employment\nat Maryland School for the Deaf.\n\n\nEmployees in this class must renew their license\nin accordance with Title 19, Speech-Language Pathology, Health Occupations\nArticle, and Annotated Code of Maryland.\n SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation\nat their own expense.� (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections\n5-560-568)\n\n\nCandidates will need to provide three letters of\nrecommendation with their application.\n SELECTION PROCESS Applications will be prescreened before\ncandidates are invited to an interview.� As an equal opportunity employer,\nMSD is committed to recruiting, retaining, and promoting employees who are\nreflective of the State's diversity.\n BENEFITS \nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
