Summary

A Facilities Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a facility’s services and maintenance. The role ensures that buildings, systems, and grounds are well-maintained, safe, compliant with regulations, and running efficiently. The manager leads a team of staff and contractors, manages budgets, and implements operational procedures for continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

🧑‍🏫 Supervision & Staff Management

  • Lead and manage facility staff and contractors, including hiring, training, and evaluating performance.
  • Assign tasks, provide direction, and ensure on-the-job training is effective.
  • Maintain open communication with internal departments and external vendors.

🛠 Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee all daily facility operations, including repairs, grounds upkeep, and utilities.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure standards of maintenance and safety are met.
  • Develop and enforce operational procedures to standardize facility upkeep.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules to ensure timely repairs while staying within budget.
  • Manage relationships and work progress of external contractors.

💰 Budget & Resource Management

  • Monitor and control budgetary spending for facility operations and maintenance.
  • Help plan and administer the budget for building and grounds upkeep.
  • Analyze utility costs and usage trends, creating reports to support efficiency improvements.

⚠️ Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure facilities comply with health, safety, and industry regulations.
  • Create and implement safety programs and emergency procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies to protect personnel and property.

🤝 Communication & Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between facility services and other departments or agencies.
  • Represent the facility team in meetings and project discussions.
  • Keep open communication with staff, contractors, and leadership.

🔧 Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Quickly address facility-related issues and find effective resolutions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, such as streamlining work order systems or enhancing inventory management.
  • Foster a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement across all operations.
