The Executive Director will guide Folio Collaborative toward achieving its mission and vision, positively influencing our member schools, especially in light of the changing dynamic in education. They are meant to lead by example as the head advocate of the brand and company, demonstrating Folio's values and operational standards and working as a force multiplier to collaborate with the team to deepen and expand our impact. They lead relationships with the Board of Directors and important stakeholders, and ensure that, above anything, the excellence and unique identifiers of Folio Collaborative are understood by, and inspire, its audience.
As Executive Director, you will champion Folio Collaborative's vision to shift from teacher evaluation to growth-oriented professional development. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about growing our Collaborative community and scaling our myFolio platform—a professional growth and development platform designed for independent schools. We seek to foster continuous improvement and collaboration, maximizing teacher strengths and building better school cultures. Leveraging your edtech experience, you will spearhead targeted sales and marketing initiatives—conducting market research, crafting compelling narratives, and forging strategic partnerships—to accelerate member growth and expand our revenue streams. You'll collaborate closely with Folio's small team to refine our value proposition, nurture leads, and close deals, while building relationships with key decision‑makers in schools. Guided by a growth‑driven mindset and a focus on creative problem-solving, you will define and monitor performance metrics, iterate on data‑driven strategies, and ensure sustainable expansion of our community—ultimately amplifying Folio Collaborative's impact on teacher excellence and student success.
Key Responsibilities
Vision and Planning
- Develop the organization's long-term vision and strategic plans with the Board of Directors
- Effectively communicate the organization's vision and translate it into realistic goals and objectives with support from the team
- Ensure that the organization's activities align with the mission and collaborate with the Folio team in providing exceptional customer service
- Build understanding of Folio's mission and vision in the marketplace
- Guide the governing body and its key committees in matters of policy formulation and interpretation
- Understand the changing social, competitive, and economic environment faced by Folio Collaborative and develop innovative approaches to meet any challenges of this new environment
Sales and Marketing
- Develop and implement comprehensive sales and marketing strategies aligned with the company's overall business objectives
- Develop and implement appropriate fund-raising and financial development strategies
- Drive the management and expansion of revenue opportunities
- Conducting market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities and threats
- Partner with the Sales and Marketing Manager to nurture leads and close deals
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders
Product Ownership and Direction
- Align product vision and road map to ensure representation of customer needs and the ability to unlock growth potential
- Collaborate with the Folio team on developing product priorities and resource allocation, ensuring that efforts are focused on the most impactful initiatives
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs, emerging trends, and competitive landscapes
Partnerships and Thought Leadership
- Own the thought leadership and positioning process
- Build partnerships with leading educational organizations in order to promote the work of Folio and leverage growth opportunities
- Lead the development of a true collaborative community among member schools and school leaders
- Establish open, trusting, and candid working relationships with all stakeholders, including Board members
Operational Oversight
- Program Management
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs, keeping impact on school leaders and teachers at the center of the work
- Ensure program effectiveness and efficiency, recommending new programs and the modification or discontinuance of current programs, as needed
- Collaborate with staff to develop, maintain, and use systems and resources for effective operation
- Human Resources
- Establish open, trusting, and candid working relationships with the Folio team, fostering a positive and productive work environment
- Develop a human resources strategy to support a strong team, including practices around recruiting, hiring, and retaining staff
- Lead staff in managing and administering programs and services
- Financial Management
- Oversee the development and management of the organization's budget
- Manage income wisely and ensure solid planning and budgeting systems
- Ensure financial stability and accountability
- Monitor expenses and financial reporting
Requirements
- Master's degree (required)
- Five years experience leading teams in meeting and exceeding quarterly and annual sales and revenue goals
- Experience building and scaling teams and systems
- Demonstrated success in sales and increased depth of impact
- Ability to manage confidential information
- A self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who takes initiative and ownership—previous experience in technology startup environments a plus
- Interest in organizational development, change management, and leadership in organizations
- Knowledge of the independent school sector
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, and experience working with staff on all levels
- Ability to travel periodically to support schools on-site
- Ability to attend quarterly team retreats in Baltimore, MD
- Experience with technology tools including Google Suite, Excel, HubSpot, Notion, Slack, Gusto, and Ramp
Benefits
Salary
$125,000-$150,000 depending on experience. This position is eligible for performance bonuses.
Health Insurance
Folio offers a group health insurance plan to all full-time employees starting the first day of the month following the employee's first day of employment. Folio will pay 100% of the employee's premium for this coverage. You may elect health coverage for your spouse and/or dependents at your sole cost, which will be payable through bi-weekly payroll deductions.
Health Savings Account (HSA)
Upon enrollment in Folio's health insurance plan, Folio contributes the annual health insurance deductible to each employee's HSA. The deductible is contributed to the HSA two times per year - January 1 (50%) and July 1 (50%). Covered employees may also make contributions to the HSA which will be payable through payroll deductions.
Retirement
Folio offers a 401(k) plan with a 3% safe harbor contribution.
Short-Term Disability Insurance
Folio offers Short-Term Disability (STD) insurance coverage to all full-time employees after the employee has completed 90 days of employment. Folio pays 100% of the employee's premium for this coverage. You may elect STD coverage for your spouse and/or dependents at your sole cost, which will be payable through bi-weekly payroll deductions.
Long-Term Disability Insurance
Folio offers Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance coverage to all full-time employees after the employee has completed 90 days of employment. Folio pays 100% of the employee's premium for this coverage. You may elect LTD coverage for your spouse and/or dependents at your sole cost, which will be payable through bi-weekly payroll deductions.
Life Insurance
Folio offers Life Insurance coverage to all full-time employees after the employee has completed 90 days of employment. The Life Insurance benefit is 1 times the employee's salary with a maximum benefit of $100,000. Folio pays 100% of the employee's premium for this coverage.
Leave
Eligible full-time employees have access to unlimited leave to ensure rest, recuperation, and time to enjoy themselves outside of work. Employees become eligible for leave after 90 days of employment. All leave must be taken in compliance with company policy as outlined in the company handbook.
