Job Description

The Events and Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing events and programs that promote awareness, engagement, and accessibility for Nebraska's Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind communities. This role works closely with NCDHH's Outreach Team and external stakeholders to ensure inclusive, impactful events and accessible information for both the public and agency use.

The chosen candidate will be able to work from either the Lincoln or Omaha office.

Job Duties: Coordinate community-focused events such as Awareness Week, workshops, and educational presentations. Support the Outreach Team with planning and logistics for booths, expos, and similar events, including interpreter scheduling and resource preparation. Collaborate with external stakeholders and partner organizations to co-promote public events and initiatives. Lead coordination and delivery of NCDHH programs such as NSTEP and L/SHAB. Manage and update the NCDHH Events section of the website to ensure timely and accurate information. Develop and maintain a wide range of resource and referral materials for use by NCDHH staff and the public, in both digital and print formats. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or related field plus work experience in programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons. Proficiency in communicating through the use of sign language.

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of NCDHH programs (e.g., NSTEP, L/SHAB) or willingness to learn.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with event management tools, websites, and common software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
  • Website content management skills (e.g., WordPress or similar platforms).
  • Marketing and promotional skills, especially for public-facing events (social media, flyers, press releases).
  • Interpersonal skills for building and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders and community members.

Abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute events from concept through completion. - Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and external partners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those using American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modes.
  • Ability to identify gaps in resources and proactively develop solutions.
  • Ability to travel within the state as needed for event coordination and outreach.
