Summary

Job Summary: The Fabrication and Machining Estimator is responsible for evaluating project requirements and preparing accurate cost estimates for fabrication and machining services. This role requires an in-depth understanding of materials, processes, and industry standards to ensure competitive and accurate pricing for customers. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and the production team to ensure bids are reflective of the scope and complexity of the projects.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Review blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
  • Estimate the cost of labor, materials, machinery, and overhead associated with fabrication and machining projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to understand project scope, specifications, and timelines.
  • Analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring competitiveness and accuracy in pricing.
  • Develop and maintain a cost database to assist with future bidding and estimating.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate, and timely cost estimates and proposals for projects, ensuring they align with the project requirements and company standards.
  • Identify potential risks, challenges, and cost-saving opportunities during the estimation process.
  • Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements and offer solutions where necessary.
  • Track and manage changes in project scope and provide updated cost estimates when changes occur.
  • Monitor ongoing projects to ensure they are within budget and on schedule.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and materials to enhance estimating accuracy and competitiveness.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as an estimator in fabrication and machining, with a strong understanding of the materials, processes, and technologies involved.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., ProEst, Estimator 360, or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with cost control practices and project management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, or other relevant fields.
  • Project management certification or experience.
  • Familiarity with ERP or MRP systems, Procore, COMPRESS, & AutoCAD


Work Environment: This position may require occasional visits to manufacturing sites or vendor locations to review project needs or inspect equipment. Work is primarily performed in an office setting maybewith some travel required for site visits or meetings.
