Description
Canoe Financial is seeking an equity research analyst to join its Toronto investment team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who aspires to be a portfolio manager, to join a team responsible for a number of actively managed mutual fund portfolios. The analyst will work closely with the portfolio manager and other team analysts to help identify equity investment ideas from different sectors and industries.
The analyst will perform fundamental equity research, provide investment ideas for the portfolios, and contribute to the portfolios’ investment performance. They will perform fundamental analysis on sectors, industries, and companies. They will develop company models to accurately value companies and forecast financials. Research efforts will include meeting with sell side analysts, industry experts, company management, suppliers and customers.
Primary responsibilities
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of Canadian, US, and global equity markets, and the universe of companies within assigned sectors.
- Conduct fundamental research on investment opportunities including financial statement analysis, management interviews, and strategic assessments of companies.
- Leverage various information sources including company management, competitors, suppliers, customers, industry specialists, and external and sell-side research to develop a thorough understanding of a company and to formulate a thesis on its stock.
- Construct company reports for distribution to the investment team to clearly articulate analysis, and present results of fundamental analysis to team members.
- Work with the sales and marketing teams to provide input into presentations, commentaries and queries.
Requirements
Knowledge:
- Passionate about financial markets and the investment industry
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in financial markets
- Research experience and knowledge of Canadian and US securities would be an asset
- Undergraduate degree in business, finance or economics
- Master’s degree in business, economics or finance would be an asset
- Completion of the CFA program would be an asset
