The Epilepsy Program Coordinator provides professional, clinical nursing, and technical knowledge, skills, and expertise for the coordination of epilepsy patient care across disciplines. Researches, develops, and applies evidence based practice in clinical care, patient and staff education, and the development and adherence of policies, procedures and treatment protocols, and overall plan of care. A Brief Overview

The Epilepsy Program Coordinator provides professional, clinical nursing, and technical knowledge, skills, and expertise for the coordination of epilepsy patient care across disciplines. Researches, develops, and applies evidence based practice in clinical care, patient and staff education, and the development and adherence of policies, procedures and treatment protocols, and overall plan of care. What You Will Do

  • Coordinates the medical care of patients in the program of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
  • Assists patients and parents in understanding the diagnosis and educates them regarding epilepsy care, testing options, and hospital procedures. Guides patients and families through the treatment process.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the overall coordination of multidisciplinary teams and physicians, collaborates with support departments for patient services, and works closely with the surgery scheduling team to arrange procedures in the operating room.
  • Performs utilization review to include authorization of insurance and obtaining specialty medications and equipment needed for the care of epilepsy patients.
  • Serves as a data resource for investigators in support of screening potential participants to ensure eligibility.
  • Participates in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program according to all Neuroscience Institute programmatic needs.

Education/Formal Training Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing

Work Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years Clinical healthcare (acute or hospital)
  • Pediatric

Licenses And Certifications Requirements

  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
  • Registered Nurse Arkansas - Arkansas State Board of Nursing
  • Registered Nurse Mississippi - Mississippi Board of Nursing
  • Registered Nurse Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Nursing

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Progressive knowledge in epilepsy care methods including data and outcomes management gained through independent clinical decision making skills.
  • Proficient in computer operations acquired either through work experience or education, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
  • Understanding of basic research principals and scientific methods.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to the unit as well as governing agencies.
  • Independent clinical decision making skills.
  • Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
