This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management. The Environmental Engineer II position, in addition to the review of air  permit applications and the subsequent writing of Title V and PSD permits, supports statewide permit writing and technical research needs including the investigation, collection, and analysis of information for the Division of Air Quality in building a knowledge base of the types of facilities, operations, and sources that have the potential to emit fluorinated organic chemicals (FOCs), PFAS, or other emerging compounds Key Responsibilities:  * Review, confer, and negotiate the terms and conditions contained in an air quality permit. * Investigate, collect, and analyze information related to potential sources of FOCs, PFAS or other emerging contaminant emissions. * Participation in meetings and internal workgroups as necessary. The Division of Air Quality: The Division of Air Quality (DAQ) works with the state's citizens to protect and improve outdoor, or ambient, air quality in North Carolina for the health, benefit and economic well-being of all. To carry out this mission, the DAQ operates a statewide air quality monitoring network to measure the level of pollutants in the outdoor air, develops and implements plans to meet future air quality initiatives, assures compliance with air quality rules, and educates, informs and assists the public with regard to air quality issues. Please visit our website at the Department of Environmental Quality for more information.  This position is located at: 217 W Jones St. Raleigh, NC 27603 * Demonstrated experience in reviewing and/or designing permit applications and/or engineering plans for evaluation and/or compliance as they pertain to environmental programs. * Demonstrated experience communicating information to consulting engineers, municipal/local officials, or the public using written and/or oral communication skills Bachelor s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
