About This Job

This position is onsite and will be located at our HQ in San Diego, CA or Irvine, CA. Remote or Hybrid is not available.

We are looking for an experienced FVP, Enterprise Data Architect to drive the strategic vision and execution of our data architecture, supporting the Enterprise Technology Strategy at Digital Bank. Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Data & Architecture, you will see the “big picture” of our data ecosystem and develop robust architectural approaches for data management, integration, analytics and monetization. This role offers a unique greenfield opportunity for a seasoned data practitioner to shape the future of Enterprise Data Architecture from the ground up.

As an Enterprise Data Architect, you won’t just be implementing data solutions—you’ll be a key architect of a transformative data strategy. You’ll play a pivotal role in establishing a strong data architecture practice, defining data governance, standards, frameworks, and best practices that will guide the bank’s long-term data evolution. You will support both strategic programs and day-to-day initiatives, ensuring that data is leveraged as a critical asset across the organization.

This role requires a strong technical background, hands-on approach, and excellent people management skills, including demonstrable experience in leading enterprise-wide data initiatives. You will provide a framework for the development of a modern data ecosystem through high-quality data solutions that meet business needs, offering high scalability, maintainability, and compliance. The ability to develop a unified data strategy and communicate it effectively at all organizational levels—from developers to executives—is critical.

In this role, you will drive the strategic design and modernization of data platforms, focusing on Data Lakehouse Transformation, Data Virtualization, seamless Data Integrations, and Data Governance. You will address data quality, security, and regulatory compliance while enhancing real-time data analytics and supporting business intelligence initiatives. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you will guide data architectural governance and ensure that our data solutions are future-proof, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.

Responsibilities:

Data Architecture & Strategy:

  • Develop and maintain the Enterprise Data Architecture roadmap in alignment with business goals and cross-functional stakeholder expectations
  • Define Data Management strategies, focusing on Technology Modernization, Data Democratization, Performance, and Scalability
  • Design end-to-end data flows and data lifecycle processes

Data Modeling, Integration & Modernization:

  • Create logical and physical data models for both transactional and analytical systems
  • Lead data integration initiatives using ETL/ELT processes, real-time data streaming, and APIs
  • Drive modernization efforts including cloud migration, re-platforming, and building POCs to assess new technologies
  • Implement data management solutions such as MDM, Data Cataloging, and Data Virtualization

Data Platform & Technology Enablement:

  • Promote the adoption of modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, and Azure Synapse
  • Utilize tools like Apache Spark, Kafka, Airflow, and dbt to enhance data processing and orchestration
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and automation in data pipelines to enhance agility and efficiency
  • Evaluate emerging technologies through POCs to guide platform and tool adoption

Advanced Analytics & AI/ML Integration:

  • Enable analytics and business intelligence (BI) capabilities by designing robust data pipelines
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to integrate predictive analytics and data-driven insights

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with business leaders, IT teams, and external partners to align data initiatives with organizational objectives
  • Present complex data strategies in a clear and actionable manner to non-technical stakeholders

Architectural Governance:

  • Define data architecture principles, standards, and best practices with a light governance approach
  • Conduct architectural reviews and support governance frameworks as needed

Preferred Competencies:

  • Expertise in data management technologies: SQL/NoSQL databases, data warehousing, and Data Lake/ Lakehouse platforms.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP, and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of data modeling tools (Erwin, ER/Studio), and integration tools (Informatica, Talend, Kafka).
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of Fivetran, Collibra, SSIS, Data Marts, Tableau, Databricks, Dremio, Snowflake, Denodo, Kafka, Confluent, Delphix etc.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Strong understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience in the banking/financial services domain with knowledge of banking technologies like APIGEE, Salesforce, Jack Henry, FIS, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture
  • 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience in large-scale data projects, including data integration, large scale data migration, data tech modernization, and analytics
  • Hands-on experience with data modeling, data management, and data integration strategies
  • Proficiency in data architecture frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, TOGAF, or Zachman
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
