As the Director, Enterprise Data Platform you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the data architecture and platforms that serve as the backbone of Element’s data-driven decision-making. As the director, you will lead a team of data engineers, architects, and other specialists to build, manage, and scale our data platform, ensuring it is reliable, secure, and scalable. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable the efficient collection, cleansing, storage, and processing of data for use across various business units.
A Day in the Life
Leadership & Strategy
Develop and execute the overall strategy for the enterprise data platform, aligning it with business objectives and IT infrastructure.
Provide leadership to a cross-functional team of data engineers, architects, and platform specialists.
Set the vision for data platform scalability, performance, security, and compliance.
Ensure alignment of the data platform with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
Platform Management & Optimization
Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of the data platform, from design and development to deployment and ongoing optimization.
Manage platform performance, uptime, and scalability to meet enterprise-level data needs.
Drive platform upgrades, new technology adoption, and tool selection to enhance data workflows and automation.
Ensure the security and governance of the data platform in compliance with organizational standards and industry regulations.
Collaboration & Integration
Collaborate with other business units (e.g., Operations, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, & Product) to understand their data needs and integrate those requirements into the platform roadmap.
Drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making across departments by delivering accessible, actionable insights from the data platform.
Partner with IT, security, and business leaders to ensure seamless integration between data systems and business applications.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data management, AI, cloud computing, and data analytics.
Proactively identify opportunities to enhance platform capabilities and bring forward innovative solutions to meet changing business needs.
Lead the evaluation, selection, and integration of third-party tools, technologies, and solutions as needed.
Team Development & Mentorship
Mentor and guide team members in their professional development, including training on new technologies, methodologies, and best practices. You will foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Build strong relationships with external partners, vendors, and other teams to ensure the platform’s ongoing success.
Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Data Analytics or a related field (Bachelor or Masters)
10+ years’ experience in data management, or platform development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role with previous experience in a similar role.
Advanced certifications as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect (nice to have other CSP experience such as Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect).
Proven experience delivering cloud native data lake and data warehousing capabilities such as Snowflake, Databricks, etc.
Proven expertise in all forms of data integration, including file transfer, ETL/ELT processes, streaming (familiarity with SSRS, Talend/Qlik Compose, etc.). Nice to have experience with modern data architecture techniques (i.e. data vault, data mesh and data fabric, etc.)
Experience complying with data governance, security, and privacy frameworks (i.e. GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
Hands-on experience with data modeling, and data governance frameworks including integrations for data cataloguing, data lineage and data quality management.
Knowledge & Competencies
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
Ability to manage complex projects with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Familiarity with ML/AI technologies and their integration into data platforms.
Good understanding of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and analytics platforms and their integration into data platforms.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Global mindset
Highly organized, process improvement focused; able to quickly identify solutions to challenges and drive implementation
The hiring base salary range for this position is $162,700 - $223,700 annually. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.
