Characteristics of Position
Engineering technicians perform various construction materials testing related tasks in the field and/or laboratory setting.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Under supervision, performs various laboratory and field assignments. The actual assignments for each Engineering Technician depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training and certification of the employee and scheduling needs of the client. Engineering Technicians must keep accurate field and laboratory records. Engineering Technician must follow Company policies and procedures. Potential assignments include the following:

Triaxial Compression, Flexible Wall Permeability
Direct Shear
California Bearing Ratio
Calculations
Concrete
Recording samples into system

Masonry Testing
Alkali Silica Resistivity
Mix Design Testing
Calculations
Asphalt
Field Mat Density
Densities on cores
Extraction, Ignition Oven Oil Content, Gradation
Marshall Density, Superpave Gyratory Compaction
Mix Design Testing
Calculations
Field Assignments

Relationship to Others
Works for the assigned Department Manager. Meets the public when performing field tests. Must interact with the public positively.
Knowledge and Experience Required
Has sufficient formal education to understand and execute written instructions, codes and procedures, as well as perform math calculations.
Conditions of Work
Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Work is performed in the laboratory and the field. Travel out of town is required several days per month. Work schedules are set depending on project requirements. The goal for this position is to have 1,976 billed hours per year.
