Summary

The Hardware Investigation Technician for the Tesla Optimus program will report to the Team Supervisor. This individual will be responsible for investigating hardware-related issues, performing detailed analyses of failure modes, and assisting with root cause identification and resolution for electromechanical systems. This role involves testing and evaluating complex robotic hardware, including actuators, sensors, and control systems, and working closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot, document, and refine hardware. The Technician will follow technical drawings, CAD models, and design specifications to perform diagnostic work, propose improvements, and ensure the hardware meets performance standards. The position requires a solid understanding of robotics hardware, electrical systems, and debugging techniques. The role will also involve collaborating with engineers and technicians to help identify potential future failure modes, assist in the development of diagnostic tools, and provide feedback on hardware design. * Investigate and troubleshoot hardware failures related to the Tesla Optimus robotics program, including mechanical, electrical, and software interaction issues * Perform detailed analysis and testing of hardware subassemblies, such as actuators, motors, sensors, power distribution units, and embedded control systems * Work from technical documentation (including schematics, CAD models, and specifications) to perform diagnostics and repairs * Collaborate with the design and development teams to identify potential design issues and suggest improvements to enhance hardware reliability and performance * Develop, refine, and implement procedures for hardware debugging, testing, and failure analysis * Work with the Material Review Board (MRB) to address hardware discrepancies and drive resolution for identified issues * Collaborate with the manufacturing and operations teams to ensure seamless hardware integration into the Optimus assembly process * Provide feedback on current and future design iterations to ensure hardware is scalable and meets long-term operational goals * Minimum of 5 years of experience working with electromechanical hardware systems, robotics, or similar advanced engineering fields * Strong understanding of hardware failure analysis and troubleshooting, including mechanical, electrical, and sensor integration * Hands-on experience with robotic systems, including actuators, motors, and sensors, and familiarity with advanced control systems * Knowledge of electrical and mechanical CAD design, troubleshooting tools, and test equipment * Proficiency with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal generators) and mechanical measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) * Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose issues and provide effective solutions * Experience with automated manufacturing systems and high-volume hardware production processes is a plus * Proficient in using software tools such as CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.), and other relevant diagnostic and data collection tools * Familiarity with high voltage systems and electrical safety standards * Ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Manufacturing, and research teams to drive hardware development and resolution of issues
