Tesla is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Active Materials Research Team. In this role, your primary responsibilities will involve laboratory-scale material synthesis and battery cell testing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, the ability to identify anomalies during experiments, adaptability in modifying test plans as needed, and strong proficiency in battery testing methods. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians to develop cutting-edge technologies that support sustainable transportation, energy storage, and generation.
* Operate materials synthesis equipment such as shear mixers, ball mills, muffle furnaces, and tube furnaces
* Perform wet chemistry techniques including agitation, filtration, and solvent evaporation
* Prepare samples for material characterization (XRD, SEM, PSA, etc.)
* Conduct electrode fabrication processes: slurry mixing, doctor blade casting, vacuum drying, and calendaring
* Blend electrolyte and assemble coin and pouch cells
* Operate battery testing equipment for routine cell performance evaluation
* Identify and report anomalies in samples, processes, or test results to engineers
* Maintain lab equipment and supplies, ensuring a clean and organized work environment
* Hands-on experience with solid-state and wet chemistry synthesis
* Familiarity with handling fine powders and maintaining sample integrity
* Understanding of the physics and chemistry relevant to battery materials
* Experience working in glove box environments
* Proficiency with battery testing platforms such as Arbin, Neware, or Bio-Logic
* A strong interest or passion for battery materials science and technology
