Summary

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for: the management of construction efforts through in-house and contracted labor for various capital infrastructure projects, for construction safety and quality of work performed, and for work with designated team and assisting in project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting, and control, while providing technical direction and ensuring compliance with quality standards.

The Engineering Project Manager responsibilities span a broad spectrum and the position interacts with several entities, both internal and external.

  • The Engineering Project Manager will bring about optimum utilization of resources-labor, materials and equipment, and ensure their procurements are at the most cost-effective terms.
  • Implementation of various operations through proper coordination.
  • Development of effective communications and mechanisms for resolving conflicts among the various participants.
  • Monitor infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with construction documents, system improvement initiatives, Augusta Health standards, work schedules and cost estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experiences.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction or related is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in hospital facility operations is required.
    • Prior experience managing capital construction projects and with medical equipment installations is preferred.
  • Professional registration as Engineer, Class-A Contractor license, Project Management Professional and/or Certified Healthcare Constructor is preferred

Essential Functions

Engineering Project Duties:

  • Coordinate communications within Augusta Health for all project-related service interruptions to access utilities and traffic in order to minimize conflicts and avoid construction delays.
  • Monitor projects to ensure that procedures, materials and equipment comply with approved project plans, specifications and samples, owner standards and quality.
  • Oversee the construction of project from start to finish.
  • Perform a key role in project planning, budgeting, and identification of resources needed.
  • Maintain liaison between medical staff, contractors, and consultants during construction to resolve field problems, and to maintain project schedule and budget.
  • Ensure that construction activities move according to predetermined schedule.
  • Coordinate the efforts for all parties involved in the project, which include the architects, consultants, contractors, sub-contractors and laborers.
  • Interpret blueprints and specifications for contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and obtain additional information from the project engineer when necessary; recommend changes to documents for ease of construction/implementation.
  • Monitor the progress of the construction activities on a regular basis and hold regular status meetings with all the sub-teams.
  • Coordinate installations of Clinical/Medical/Imaging Equipment with vendor and Augusta Health medical staff.
  • Coordinate modifications and additions to building infrastructure systems with Building Automation System to ensure performance.
  • Monitor contractor performance; insure adherence to terms and conditions of agreements.
  • Coordinate construction efforts through in-house and contract labor for new construction and rebuild projects.
  • Perform site inspections for quality control, infection control (in sensitive areas), and compliance to life safety codes.
  • Coordinate permitting.
  • Creates and maintains project files and updates existing building system master files.
  • Be familiar with specifications, show drawings, and submittals.
  • Maintain projects lists and close out documentation.
  • Interface with general contractors and subs and be detail oriented with follow up skills.
  • Responds to inquiries from department personnel regarding assigned project status.
  • Assists department personnel in organizing work relating to specific assigned project deadlines.
  • Prepare daily reports of project activities and other reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
  • Coordinate and assist with final inspections: monitor completion of the punch list.
  • Monitor and document change orders from initiation to completion of construction and payment.
  • Review and recommend approval of payment to contractors for quantities of materials received or used and work completed during specific periods.
  • Review projects at end of warranty period for non-compliance items.

Other Duties

  • Assures compliance to Augusta Health standards and values by all contractor teams.
  • Assure integrity of all compliance and life-safety features of buildings and facilities.
  • Coordinates all construction activities with Maintenance and Operations staff and assures proper procedural documentation and methods.
  • Assists Maintenance and Operations staff with daily operation troubleshooting and system performance issues.
  • Maintains scan copies and records of all contracts, contract documents, and drawings and provides regular report of contract history and archives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
