Area Engineering Manager

Overview

As an Area Engineering Manager, you will oversee the operations of hotel facilities, including the building structure, mechanical, electrical, fire safety, and HVAC systems, ensuring they are in line with energy conservation and preventive maintenance programs. You will manage the day-to-day operations of the engineering division, ensuring the property is well-maintained, safe, and in compliance with regulations. You will report directly to the Area Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and assets in a safe state.
  • Ensure hotel compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Supervise and train engineering staff on customer service and standard procedures.
  • Create and post engineering staff schedules.
  • Develop and adhere to the department's budget.
  • Assist in financial forecasts and participate in monthly profit/loss reviews.
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program for hotel equipment.
  • Ensure emergency systems are inspected and certified per company standards.
  • Participate in energy conservation programs.
  • Review guest and planner comments and ensure timely resolutions.
  • Ensure compliance with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).
  • Assist with vendor contract administration controlled by engineering.
  • Handle room maintenance requests promptly and courteously.
  • Respond to alarms immediately, assess, and report emergencies to the front desk.
  • Assist with special projects and renovations as needed.
  • Conduct regular assessments of hotel maintenance and operations.
  • Verify completion of routine maintenance in all areas.
  • Confirm all repairs, replacements, and renovations are completed as scheduled.
  • Follow corporate purchasing policies for outside contractor bids and schedules.
  • Adhere to safety procedures by company and OSHA standards.
  • Lead the hiring, training, and supervision of engineering staff.
  • Maintain effective energy management practices and conduct training for safe equipment use.
  • Provide regular updates to the General Manager on building conditions and systems, offering cost-effective maintenance proposals.
  • Strategically lead the engineering department to achieve high guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in facilities management at a hotel or related field; or a 2-year college degree plus 1 year of management experience.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Licensing: Stationary Engineer’s license as per local code.
  • Skills: Proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance required.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy lifting: up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with employees and guests.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage and handle complex situations and information.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Specific Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Experience: Experience in hotel or a related field.
  • Work Flexibility: Ability to work long hours as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
