About The Role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Social Layer of Gaming team — a critical team focused on building SDKs that enable game developers to embed Discord’s social features directly into their games. This work is central to Discord's strategy and plays a vital role in our future.

You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers and collaborate across departments to evolve the SDK’s capabilities and impact the broader game development ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

👥 Team Building & Leadership

• Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
• Mentor engineers, supporting their career growth and development goals.
• Foster a culture of ownership, inclusion, and high impact.
  
  

🛠 Product & Technical Strategy

• Work with cross-functional partners (Product, Design, Partnerships, Marketing) to define the SDK roadmap.
• Influence technical strategy and system architecture.
• Deliver new features, platform integrations, and game engine support.
  
  

🔗 Execution & Collaboration

• Set and uphold engineering best practices and quality standards.
• Balance process with speed and flexibility to keep teams productive.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term planning and engineering org improvements.
  
  

Requirements

✅ Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years as a Software Engineer with hands-on experience.
• 2+ years as an Engineering Manager.
• Proven experience building or managing C++ SDKs.
• Experience with APIs and backend service architecture.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills.
• Ability to work through ambiguity and deliver solutions.
• A growth mindset focused on collaboration, learning, and adaptability.

• Experience in game development, especially with Unity or Unreal Engine.
• Familiarity with Discord as a user and understanding of its features and ecosystem.
