Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Engineering Manager is responsible for duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead, develop and mentor Engineers and Designers to foster continuous improvement of engineering expertise, encourage professional development, and guide career planning
- Develop and implement:
- New hire training programs
- Quality control and assurance programs
- Employee development programs
- Product development programs
- Programs to cross train staff across departments and product lines
- Exercise technical responsibility required within areas of technical competence in order to adequately perform, direct, review, and develop engineering deliverables meeting client and jurisdictional requirements
- Maintain PE Licensure, NCEES record, and achieve additional state licenses as required
- Review and sign/seal deliverables in licensed states as appropriate
- Contribute to new designs and techniques which are of material significance to solving problems experienced within the department
- Function as technical lead / expert in their respective product lines
- Coordinate development of new templates, tools, macros, and other time saving processes to improve efficiency and continuously improve engineering products
- Ensure accurate project status tracking to facilitate project management reporting
- Leads direct communication with project manager for client questions, work product, and delivery forecasting. Will require some direct client interaction by phone, email, or in-person
- Managing timelines and deliverable quality on multiple projects in coordination with Director of Engineering and Project Managers / Director of Services
- Assign and track workflow to meet departmental goals
- Less than 5% travel may be required in support of position’s responsibilities
- Position may allow for tower climbing, but is not required
Structural Responsibilities
- Perform and review structural analyses of communication towers, antenna mounts and related structures pursuant to governing building codes and standards
- Utilize a variety of engineering software including both specialized and general-purpose finite element analysis (FEA) programs
- Design and review structural modifications to increase capacity of structures and foundations when required per analysis
- Represent the company by actively participating and contributing to company efforts to participate in TIA-222 / TR-14 development
A&E Technical Responsibilities
- Responsible for converting field notes, architectural, engineering and/or plan sketches into working construction drawings using AutoCAD per customer specifications
- Responsible for revising construction drawings per customer and internal redlines
- Develop a familiarity with individual client requirements in order to tailor the initial drawing template and continue to adapt client preferences as needed
- Performs detailed checking and redlines work performed on projects under their direct supervision
- Complete and review engineered designs for concrete pads, equipment mounting frames, and other miscellaneous structures
Managerial Responsibility
- Reports to Director of Engineering (DoE)
- Supervises a team of Engineers and/or Designers
- Supervise and manage the performance of technical staff and provide technical direction and training to the members of the team
- Coordinate with DoE and HR to recruit, interview, hire, on-board, and retain staff
- Work collaboratively with the Engineering and A+E Managers, senior staff, and DoE to balance work-loads, maintain quality production, and maintain an appropriate culture in the office as a whole and on individual teams
- Coach team members on technical and professional performance and collaboratively set development and performance goals
- Proactively identify and resolve personnel issues in conjunction with HR
Physical Demands
Office work is in a normal office environment that requires the following activities:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 90% of the time
- Ability to move about the office to access office machinery, attend meetings, etc.
- Must be able to operate a computer and all required programs
- Occasional moving of office supplies up to 10 pounds
Field work will be exposed to current weather elements and requires the following:
- Ability to open locks, open / close gates and doors
- Ability to ascend a ladder in order to obtain measurements, pictures, etc.

Skills And Abilities
- Proficient with RISA 3D, TNX Tower and/or AutoCAD
- Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
- Effectively communicate and work with both internal Engineering and Project Management teams as well as customers
- Mastery of Civil and Structural Engineering concepts and technologies applicable to communication towers and their foundations and ability to teach to others
- Mastery of relevant Engineering standards and codes followed in the Telecom Industry
- Ability to set priorities for self and others and work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to efficiently multi-task and work on several projects simultaneously
- Ability to run efficient meetings and motivate staff
Education And Experience
- 6-10 years of telecom structural or CAD experience preferred; alternately 8-12 years of applicable engineering experience
- B.S. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable degree program required; Structural Engineering emphasis preferred
- P.E. Certification and NCEES record required
