Reports To: Chief Engineer

Job Summary: The Engineering Manager oversees the daily operations of the hotel’s maintenance department, ensuring the property remains safe, functional, and visually appealing for Guests and Associates. This role includes supervising and scheduling engineering Associates, performing hands-on repairs and preventative maintenance, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, and maintaining accurate records. The position requires effective communication with other departments, prompt response to Guest requests, and support of overall hotel operations, including acting as Manager on Duty when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Associate Supervision: Perform direction, supervision, training, scheduling or management of the day-to-day activities of Associates. Act as MOD when necessary. This includes overseeing any third-party contract labor who may be working in the building.
  • Maintenance and repairs: Perform general maintenance and repairs on the hotel's interior and exterior, including rooms, furniture, equipment, plumbing, and electrical. These responsibilities may include refurbishing fixtures, painting, and carpentry.
  • Preventative maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance repairs and painting within guestrooms and corridors as directed by Management.
  • Safety and security: Ensure the hotel's safety and security by following procedures to secure inventory and assets, and by maintaining the cleanliness of the exterior of the facility.
  • Guest requests: Respond to Guest requests for immediate repairs and communicate all completions to the Front Office and Operations Managers.
  • Communication: Communicate with other departments to promote teamwork and quality service.
  • Compliance: Comply with federal, state, and local laws regarding health and safety.
  • Record keeping: Maintain inspection logs and records of scheduled work and repairs.
  • Training: Participate in training to learn how to perform work safely and efficiently.
  • Installation of new products: Including, but not limited to, make up mirrors, light fixtures, TV mounts and displays, receptacles, light switches, windows, door (mortise, latch, hinges), clogged drains, sink & shower fixtures, bed frames, mechanic room patrols and cleanliness, light fixtures, and Manager requests.

Required Skills, Experience And Knowledge

  • Strong working knowledge of building systems such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general repairs.
  • Proficient in hands-on maintenance tasks including fixture installation, painting, carpentry, door and window repair, and furniture refurbishment.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures, safety inspections, and compliance with OSHA and local building codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, safety regulations, and maintenance documentation.
  • Experience maintaining inspection logs and inventory records.
  • Ability to convey information and ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate and select alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Maintains composure, objectivity, and professionalism in high-pressure or stressful situations.
  • Skilled at listening, understanding, and resolving concerns raised by Associates and Guests.
  • Problem-solving abilities to anticipate, identify, and resolve maintenance and operational issues efficiently.
  • Physically capable of performing maintenance tasks, including lifting, climbing, bending, and extended periods of standing.
  • Prior experience acting as Manager on Duty (MOD) or leading operations during critical shifts is preferred.
